Our Flag

All of our colors,
The red, white, and blue,
They fill me with pride
And prob’ly you too.

Red and white stripes,
Blue has white stars.
Together they make
The best flag—‘cause it’s ours!

I love my country
And what it stands for.
When I sing our anthem
I feel my heart soar.

We’re special, unique,
And one-of-a-kind.
No one’s ever succeeded—
Search and you’ll find

In 1700, our colonists looked
And sadly they found
The king was unjust,
So they made a big sound!

But their pleas were ignored—
“No representation!”
So the colonists joined together
And made a new nation.

This was shocking!
How new and wondrous!
No one had yet done this,
Hence the great fuss!

It certainly wasn’t easy
But our leaders stood tall.
“We must come together,
Or alone we’ll all fall!”

Together they made
A brand new country.
But in order to gain it
Conflict had to be.

Red brings to mind blood,
The blood our men shed
As they followed their leaders,
And our leaders they led.

For freedom’s not free—
As you prob’ly know well—
Someone must die,
Bravely they each fell.

Their red blood was shed
So we could be free.
They helped us be full
Of sweet liberty.

Blue reminds me of water
Or perhaps even tears
For tears have oft been shed
Over all our long years.

If blood must be shed,
Tears will be too
By mothers and fathers
And friends not a few.

White reminds me
Of cleanliness and purity.
Without fault—perfect,
But come now and see

And remember the world
Is not always clean.
There are corrupt men,
Selfish, cruel, and quite mean.

They may not appreciate
Our freedom like we do.
These men are not rare;
There are quite a few!

Soldiers shed their blood
To make our great nation.
But the battle’s not over;
It’s quite far from all done.

Freedom wasn’t free,
And it’s still not today.
If we want to keep it
We surely must pay.

We fought long and hard
For our first liberty.
Now let’s not give up;
Come fight, you and me!

America’s not perfect,
In fact she’s quite bad.
We’ve abandoned our God,
Making me very sad.

Yet I still do love
America, my home.
I love her better
Then anywhere I could roam.

I want to help
My nation stand strong
And endure for a time
So, so, so long!

So let’s do our part
No matter how small
And help our great nation
Stand strong and stand tall.

Also, I just had to say that I found it hilarious and adorable that you quoted Captain America alongside Reagan (I personally consider Reagan to be one of the greatest political leaders America has been blessed to have). Captain America is great, though.

Hey Grace, I'm so glad you wrote this. You were honest in what you said, and I like how you put it into poetry - always my go to. ;)
Two stanzas stuck out to me:

These lines are very true, and yet, despite the worlds ugliness, you managed to help us see beauty, at the end, especially. :)
