Bad Things

I. Bad, Bad, Bad
No, no, no, no
Not going down this road
Again
Friends are friends
It doesn’t matter
If they’re boys or girls.

II. What
Why is this jealousy
We’re not—
I’ve never even thought of you like—
Block my thoughts, don’t let them go
Any farther than they already have
“But seriously, she’s too old for you
She doesn’t even speak English,”
Laugh it off
But wow, I really don’t want you to
See this woman ever again.

III. Why
Clenched jaw
Tightened fist
This is so frustrating and
I can’t say what I need
To say

IV. Just a Nightmare
I did a bad thing
Last night
I took advantage
(but your eyes were just glowing and
you know how I can be)
Wrapped my hand behind your neck and
Put my lips on your beery mouth
(for a minute, we were something
for a minute, we were one)
But then you called me by her name and
Guilt is a spider up inside of my chest
I don’t know myself
Anymore.

Erin, these are SO GOOD. And happy early birthday! And also I am dying to hear the backstory on that last one. But seriously--these are all excellent. They're strong enough that they could stand alone, if they needed to, but the set really weaves them all together and makes for a really complete read.

Oops! Forgot to comment. These are great!!! Ditto pretty much to everything Homey said ;)
I really enjoyed "What" most of all :D

Erin, I honestly love these. They're fresh and lovely. It seemed everytime I was reading I suspected the poem would go on longer, but then you cut it short, which was surprising, but it really went well with it.
Just a Nightmare is really really good, but I think the first was my favourite. Actually, no, both are my favourite :P

Goodbye? Oh no, please. Can’t we just go back to page one and start all over again?” – Winnie The Pooh
