Insomnia (a song without a tune)

Crickets and fans sound in my ear
I wait for dawn's rays to appear
But pain cannot be kept at bay
I try to push the fog away
And onwards through the haze I see
That sleep may make its way to me

Don't leave me, no
Don't let me be
You cannot judge
What you can't see

And then the beast draws near again
Insomnia is labeled "sin"
It's dreaded force to me denies
Blessed sleep and still it decries
That I must be awake at night
While rest is scared away by sight

Don't leave me, no
Don't let me be
You cannot judge
What you can't see

Now in a tangent I am whirled
Sanity I've had becomes swirled
Please don't leave me here all alone
To the darkest thoughts I am prone
This night engulfs me; I feel lost
My thoughts to me bring such high cost

Don't leave me, no
Don't let me be
You cannot judge
What you can't see

How is it that now that it's night
My brain wakes up and wants to fight
To tell me all the ones I've wronged
And wonder for what wrong I've longed
To sigh for future lost, or found
To run my dreams down to the ground

Don't leave me, no
Don't let me be
You cannot judge
What you can't see

I'm told I should try something new
I've tried until I'm black and blue
Metaphorically I am beat
Literally, too, by defeat
Of insomnia, my bane, my peeve
Please sleep, my tired brain relieve

Don't leave me, no
Don't let me be
You cannot judge
What you can't see

Notes

I took my short poem and added some more verses and a chorus. Thinking about giving it to my cousin for a tune...we'll see. :)
