On a Silent Night

Submitted by Hannah W. on Tue, 12/23/2008 - 16:17

The silent, still darkness
Tick, tick, tick
of the kitchen clock
Shadows and quiet
Moonbeams through the window
drenching the smooth floor
in silver

Soft carpet,
hushed wind,
dark room
illuminated by colored lights
yellow and blue and red and green
strung around, weaving along the branches
of a tall evergreen
Twinkling silver and gold
hung on every bough
Glowing, magical
Soundless, beautiful
mysterious, wonder

And the night
is holding its breath,
waiting
on a silent night

This was lovely. I like the lines "drenching the smooth floor in silver". Just lovely.

This was an amazing piece! For me, it perfectly captures Christmas Eve at my dad's parents, staying up super late when everyone else is asleep, just looking at the tree and enjoying the peace. Absolutely beautiful, well done!
And congrats on becoming a monthly writer!!

Brit: I <3 your quote! "Bringing Up Baby" is one of my all-time favorite movies!

Your's too, Clare!
