Fragments of Summer

I. April 20th/21st

I wonder if we’ll ever be able to recreate this
rebuild the starless sky and the cool pavement
the pine needles in my hair and these stupid boys
talking about guns and what to do with them
I wonder if it will be the same
the next time we lay down in the street and
listen to each other talk until Monday turns to Tuesday
if his fingers will feel the same as they dance
on the crease of my elbow
or if I will even do this again
with these people
or if we are already spreading our roots
little furlongs of bark digging through
to new places, new things
maybe someday we will come back together
try to remember what we had
I don’t know if it will be the same
but I can at least memorize this feeling
of youth and freedom and 2am trash talk
and smile.

II. May 17th

I didn’t know it was possible
to miss someone while they were
still standing right in front of you
ache as they turn away.

III. May 29th

and for once, it all goes according to plan
his arm slung over my shoulder
chin on my head
our fingers intertwined
it felt so easy
as if we did it all the time.

As usual, I can feel the empty ache of your loneliness through your lovely descriptions. You most certainly have a gift!

I don’t thrive off of chaos: chaos thrives off of me.
