I Don't Want to be a Princess

Submitted by E on Fri, 01/02/2015 - 04:10

I am not a princess
I have no desire to be
I do not need a man to save me
I am capable of so much more
Than floundering and wishing
For someone to love me
I am intelligent, not just beautiful
I don't need validation of that
It breaks my heart when girls
Wish that they were Cinderella
Waiting humbly until she was
Beautiful enough to be noticed by a prince
Or Ariel, who gave up her VOICE,
Her tail, her entire self
To be with a man she barely knew
Or Sleeping Beauty, who was awoken
By a strange man's lips
This is not life, this is not love
We are capable of so much better
Than lovelorn schoolgirl dreams.

I'm glad y'all like it! I'm irritated by the idea of victimized, lovelorn women portrayed in movies. And in books, for that matter. Haha, I'm slowly becoming a feminist!

LOVE!!! This is so absolutely perfect and I felt completely the same way, wow! I loved how you capitalized "VOICE" because that really is serious! Love! Love! Love!

I found this funny, because my actual job is to be Cinderella, haha...
And happy new year to you!

Thanks! And thank you for all of your comments! I was happy to see that you had even gone back to read one again, that's a big compliment to me. :)
