From a Baby's Eyes

NOTE: I was looking through old stuff I wrote, and found this. I thought it was kind of funny. Anyways, I'm not going to go through and edit it any time soon, so jfyi :)*

I was angry. I was screaming at the top of my lungs, but they didn't care. They never did. They left me in there to sleep. And I didn't like such nonsense, it made me angry. It made my sweet, adorable perfect angel baby face turn angry and pathetic looking. But I didn't care either, because they didn't care and I was NOT tired. I screamed and screamed, I heard dadda say,
“That baby sure has a set of lungs!” and then everyone started laughing. Laughing at my misfortunes, how could they? But I would go right on and keep screaming, I was not about to go sleep. But of course they would keep right on ignoring me. Just then, Awah came up (that is how I said Sarah, I could not yet pronounce that hard letter, S). She reached her arms out to me and was about to pick me up, then mama said,
“No, Sarah. Don't pick her up, she is supposed to be going to sleep.” Awah took her hands away and I screamed louder, she looked at me with a pitiful face,
“Awww....” she always had spoiled me. She always felt sorry for me when I cried, (crying was my way of manipulating people, that way, I would be picked up). Awah came back a minute later with a blanket, she made me lay down and covered me up, rubbing my head. Now that is someone I like. I quieted down and finally, my tired little eyes closed, I realized I really had been tired. And as I drifted off to sleep, I heard dadda say,
“You have a way with babies, Sarah.” and then I was asleep.

*******
A few minutes later (or so it seemed to my tiny little mind), I woke up, I was still in that horrid jail, which they called (trying to appease me) a 'crib'. My tummy was awfully empty, and no one had come to pick me up yet. So, I decided to make myself noticed. I started screaming, and up came Awah.
“Awww, honey!” She said, picking me up. I laid my head on her shoulder, my tummy was still frightfully empty.
“Are you hungry, Faithy?” she said, and I knew what that meant. My tummy would get all full, and then I would be happy. She put me in the high chair, and then she put her finger up,
“Just a second, lemme go get you some food.” and she went off leaving my tiny tummy empty for hours (or so it seemed to my little mind). Then she came up with a little tiny can of green stuff. She took a little spoon and then opened the can, she gave me a bite, it was awful! Then Awah said,
“Hey, Emma, Faith made a funny face when I fed her the baby food! I don't think she likes it!” Awah was laughing. Then, she gave me MORE of that stuff! I thought Awah was my friend. But when she tried to give me a third bite, I turned up my nose and refused to take anymore of that yucky stuff. Then Awah smiled and took a big bite of it and said,
“See, Faithy, it tastes really yummy!” And seeing as Awah liked it, I gave her ONE more chance, but that was it. I guess it was okay, if it filled my tummy up. And when I was done eating, Awah got a wash cloth and started to wipe my face off, which of course, made me very insulted. She was not about to get that cold cloth and rub it all over my face. I started turning my face this way and that, and crying until finally, Awah lost her patience with me,
“Faith! Can you please be still?!” That did it. Awah and I were enemies. And she forced that cold cloth all over my face, and then when she was done she got me down and I liked her again, that dreadful torture was over.

This reminds me so much of Esther! The wash cloth - she does the same EXACT thing! And putting her to sleep...I am proud of the fact that when I put her to sleep she rarely cries. ;)

This brings back a lot of memories for me. :) I like the way you approached this from the Baby's perspective, and how she calls you "Awah".
