Canto V. Glory

The disciples believed; it was true; they saw.
We have not seen, but can still be in awe.
Don’t doubt like Thomas, unbelieving,
Until Jesus was before him and he was touching, seeing.

“Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

It came about as God had spoken, just as He said,
Jesus was killed and then raised from the dead.
He atoned for our sin and now is on high,
For those that believe, we’ll never truly die.

We were buried with Him in baptism, raised
By faith in the powerful working of God – oh, Him be praised!
He made us alive together with Christ, forgiving our sins,
Canceling our debt – the glory begins!

Our risen Lord ascended on high,
Seated at the right hand of the Father high up in the sky.
His glory was veiled when He was on earth,
Had to take on human form for His birth.

Now, returned to the Father, so highly exalted,
Death is overturned - gone, not merely assaulted.
This glory is greater than that which Moses knew,
Repent and believe, and you’ll see it, too.

The justice of God is satisfied,
His wrath poured on Christ, not His bride.
In Christ we’re forgiven, made new, and redeemed,
For when He was in the grave, things were not as they seemed.

God’s sovereign plan was at work from the start,
The things that we see are only a part.
Right now we see dimly, but then face-to-face,
When one day, in glory, we finish the race.
