Their Lord was dead; they’d laid Him in the tomb.
The Romans killed their head; now they waited for their doom.
What were they to do now that men had killed their Jesus?
With Him no longer here, who was there to save us?
They’d forgotten His words, what He’d said many times.
He foretold His death – and they’d doubted those lines.
He’d said the Son of Man, would be delivered over,
Be crucified by Gentiles – its truth now made them sober.
They were so frightened after He was killed, but again –
They did not remember His words; they did not believe Him then.
They trembled in fear, shuddered and were devastated.
Why did was He killed, and why was He so hated?
Oh that Peter had been right, that Jesus would not die!
Jesus rebuked Peter, since on earth, not heav’n, was that disciple’s eye.
He said “death” and they forgot the rest, so afraid they were.
But He knew; He told them what would occur.
The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again.
And He told them they must give up themselves like Him,
“Deny self, take your cross” - this was no choice of whim.
He said to save a life meant to lose it, and to lose it was to save it.
Might His life be saved, even though it was so hard hit?
(And they did not even understand the half of it).
“If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it. For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? For what can a man give in return for his soul?”
They forgot the Law, the prophets, and their Lord –
So many words they had ignored!
If they’d remembered, they’d not have hid –
But what had He said? After three days, I’ll live!
Come, let us return to the LORD;
for he has torn us, that he may heal us;
he has struck us down, and he will bind us up.
After two days he will revive us;
on the third day he will raise us up,
that we may live before him.

Good, very good. It is always a pleasure to read your poems, Kyleigh. It reminded me of a song about: "Deny himself, take up his cross and follow me, he is the way he is the life."
God bless :)

I really enjoyed this. It
I really enjoyed this. It was good to be reminded of the fear and and despair that the disciples experienced at that time.
I especially appreciated the transition from fear and despair to hope.
Thank you so much for this. It was very encouraging and uplifting.
