Day we met
'Why, hello there.' 'Hello.'
I knew you were it
And I didn't need anything else
Because you made me love you
You made me wait
With the girls for our first date
Said you'd bring them some friends
'Is he not going to show?' 'Of course he will, hon.'
Dana rubbed my arm
And just like that you strode in
With flowers for us all
Whirlwind romance
Married only a month later
Got down on your knee
'Would you-' 'YES!'
And slid a ring onto my finger
It dazzled so beautifully
I was just a child
When you told me you'd be
Leaving
Had to serve your country
'Please, don't.' 'I have to.'
So you left
Taking only your clothes
And a picture of me, of course
Here's what you missed:
-Your sister's wedding (she looked stunning)
-My face when I found out about (you know)
-My phone call when I tried to tell you (I'm still mad at you for that)
-Jack's birth (gone for six months, eh? more like twelve)
-Jack's first smile (he looked so much like you, I cried)
-The rest of our lives (i'm still coming to grips with that)
They came at me
With a telegram
The words I never wanted to see
But had to
Still, even as I fell to my knees
'Why, God? Why'
And they handed me the only thing left of you
-My Picture, of course, my picture-
I knew you would protect me
Our love was unequivocal
Funny how
Day we met
'I'm James', 'I'm Becca'
You had me at
'Hello'
And I looked at you
And I knew right then
I didn't need anything else
Because you made me love you

:)
This was really, really sad. But extremely real.
I loved that you indirectly told your readers that he died in the war. And you indirectly stated a few other things...I liked that alot.
Anyways, I really liked this...as I do for many of your poetry! :)
