The Divine

Submitted by Madeline on Fri, 01/27/2012 - 00:26

*This poem is a metaphor for those who get lost when they let material things rule their life. They forget family, friends, kids...all they can think about is power, beauty, money, looks. The "fairies" in the poem are a referance to this things. Hope you enjoy!!

They swirl twirl
Whirl
Above my head
I try to grasp them
But I can’t

Why is beauty
So divine?
... Unreachable?
It won’t be mine.

Crumbs, Milk, Sugar
Their noses upturned
As I helplessly offer
Every morsel I’ve earned

They dance away
I chase, I follow
Leaving love at the door
Pride I swallow

Skinny
Rich
They promise me this
Beautiful
Pleasing
Seems so easy

Step one two three
Battle demons
They lead me astray
Keep on feeding

My lust, my desire
For all things magic
Never knew that it’d
Cost you to have it

Then it’s in my grasp
So many years
Catch them in my arms
They confirm my fears

I’m perfect
Yet
Worthless
I’m Lovely
Yet
Nothing

Money fill
Yet,
Have no will

Puppet strings
I live this lie
Bittersweet
Tears I cry

The Fairies tricked me
They told me of beauty
Of easy life and money
I believed them.

They told me if I didn’t
Then I would be forbidden
They’d want to keep me hidden.
And now, I’m shunned.

So I curl up in a ball
On my bed, twirl, whirl
As they dance above my head
And I realize I’m alone

I fell for it
I did
