"Shouldn't life be about what you're good at?"
I recently wrote an aricle for a magazine, and the statement above is my main point. I have long since known such, but haven't put it into comprehensible words. Then that hit me, and I was like, "yes!" Isn't that true? Why can't it be true?
You see people working jobs they hate...children doing schoolwork they hate...does it make sense? To me, it doesn't. What about those janitors that want to be teachers, or the cashiers that want to be in the law office? Should we deprive ourselves of those opportunities? What ever happened to taking a risk?
Have we alienated the fact that living the life you want to is possible?
I'd love to hear your opinions on this topic. Let me know what you think in the comments. :)

I like your
I like your point, Bridget. That's also what I adressed in my article. People are bent on perfection, and for that reason we will have to be good at what others "think" we need to be good at. :)))
I think
one should just go for it and be willing to take the risks of failure than just staying put. If you want to travel then travel just decied what you want to do and then go forth and be the best in that field just if you do give up a dream give it up fully and drive into whatever it is that you chose over it. Live your life to the fullest be the best you can and do what you love!

Interesting
Very thought-provoking HomeschoolGirl! I have actually thought about this a lot and have spoken to others about this before. It is true that many people try to be sucessful or be somebody they are not to please others. I have always believed that we should do what we are good at. God obviously thought it was important to give us certain talents and skills. Why would He do such if we weren't meant to use them? A lot of times what we are good at makes us very happy anyway because the talents God gave us usually coincide with His Will for our lives. The reason people are not happy with their jobs and futures is that we are too focused on trying to get by or get rich. We may be in a rough position financially, but if we are trusting God and are working in His will (including the jobs He places us in), then He will still provide for us. Eventually, He will always lead us to where He wants us with our jobs/careers and we will be happy with where we are and what we are doing.
I'll use myself as a brief example. I was so confused as to what I wanted to do with my life because I have many talents. I am very good creatively (art, writing, etc), yet I am good at analyzing, critical thinking, and problem solving. A lot of people don't have both. I am also a natural leader and have a lot of patience. I thought about various jobs that would utilize at least part of my talents, but I was never fully happy with whatever I thought about doing. I liked to jump from one subject to the next in my quest for more knowledge. I also have to be doing something at least partially creative or I am really unhappy.
One day a friend told me I would make a great teacher. That statement was backed up by my family, other teachers, and other friends. I love children, but I knew I could never teach younger children because it would not be intellectually stimulating enough for me. However, that is when I found out I could teach college without a PhD in my field, if I had a master's degree. The idea excites me every single day that I get up. It feels so right. I already tutor students in various subjects and love every second of it, especially students with learning disabilities. I see it as a challenge to reach the people that others leave behind because they don't learn the way we do. Also, being a teacher utilizes every single talent that I have (everything I am good at). I can't really imagine doing anything else even though I have had many people tell me I can make almost double the amount of money working out in my field.
It is a fine example of God putting someone right where He wants them to utilize everything they are good at. There is no reason why we can't be happy and do what we love as well as what we are good at. Sometimes though, God has to prepare us for our roles. He knows what He is doing and is cultivating everything we will need in order to do what makes us and Him happy.
Let me know what you think :)

P.S. Finally found some time to write and upload another poem! Yay!

Thanks for your comment, Wings of Eternity!
Thank you--sometimes I just feel the need to share my thoughts with others on certain subjects. I tend to feel strongly about things. ;)
Exactly (!!!) on ALL of your points. That is how I feel completely. Each of us was meant to do something. Whatever it is about people, for some reason, we are afraid to accept that. Our nature is to do what we think our lifestyle is best suited for. We settle to get the jobs we can. True happiness can only be found when you let it all go and do what you really want to.
I tutor as well! Teaching has always interested me, though I'd like to work with younger kids. And not in the public schools. (blah!) Probably tutoring professionally is up my alley. I'm involved in lots of things as well (piano, voice, writing for my newspaper, acting) so I basically do all of those. REALLY busy sometimes. haha.
Good for you on finding what you want to do--thanks for your reply.

I wish that were the case. I
I wish that were the case. I think that most of us have the choice to do something they love, but it's very difficult. For example, I want nothing more than to travel - just travel and see everything without being stuck in a hotel at a computer. Unfortunately, I have to have money to survive, and travel costs a lot, so it doesn't look like I'll be traveling any time soon. Also, so many people are hung up on being successful. If I'm anything less than that, my parents will be disappointed. For a lot of people, it's just not worth it.
