 All Through The Knight

Chapter 1 The Nightmare       She ran through the mystic woods, leaves and twigs crunching underneath her feet, she began to pant as she was quickly losing strength in her legs. She began to sweat, the beads starting on her forehead then trailing down her face onto her chin, finally slipping off her face and onto the ground. Fear still apparent sending a chill up her spine. She didn’t notice the root sticking out of the ground as she fell on top of it making her stumble and fall onto the cold hard ground. Her face now dirty, her hands and knees scraped. She tried to get up but kept falling back on the ground like bricks were piling onto her back making it impossible to move. The white mist began to form around her surroundings. She kept trying to stand but now her legs wouldn’t let her, like they were paralyzed. She tried crying for help but she couldn’t find her voice, she tried putting all the force in her lungs but only a whisper had come out of her mouth. Now the mist was so thick that if she were to put her hand out in front of herself all she would see would be a blur of what was her hand. She stared at the mist trying to watch all of it at one time. Suddenly the darkly dressed man appeared in front of her. She couldn’t see his face for it was covered by a hood. He knelt down before her, took her chin into his dark gloved hand. She stared into the hood, she couldn’t see anything. She just wanted to scream but her lungs wouldn’t let her. So she kept staring then suddenly the man’s eyes opened revealing nothing but red.       ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~       She snapped awake screaming. Once she realized that it was only a dream she began to calm down, she pulled her lean legs up resting her chin on her knees and began whimpering.     “Why do these dreams keep repeating?” She whispered. Just then her mother ran into her room, slamming the door behind her. With a sense of urgency in her voice she said. "Aracane! Hurry climb out the window!"     "Why Mother? What's wrong?" Aracane said, throwing the blankets off of her.     "Please Aracane! Just do what I say!" She said, fear evident in her eyes as she took Aracane by the shoulders and guided her quickly to the window. She ripped the sheets off of Aracane's bed and started lowering them out the window then she fastened the other end of the sheets to the nail on the sill.     "Climb down Aracane, quickly." She kept looking over her shoulder as if she was expecting someone. Aracane did as she was told. Once Aracane got halfway down the sheet she looked back up at her mother. "What's wrong mother?" Aracane tried again.     "Aracane jus-" Her mother never finished her sentence and never would be able to for Aracane saw a blade erupt from her mother's chest. Aracane's mother fingered the blade then looked down at Aracane, blood beginning to drip out of her mouth. The blade dissapeared as quickly as it had come. Aracane screamed as her mother's limp body fell out of the window and made a sickening noise as she hit the ground. Aracane, with fear coursing through her veins like ice water looked back up at the window where she last saw her mother, seeing as there was nothing there she gave a sigh of relief, then the wind blew in making her long black hair cover her face. Feeling as though someone was feeding her hay she sputtered as the hair went into her mouth. When her vision was finally clear of hair, was when she saw him, the darkly dressed man from her dreams , she tried to scream again but her lungs wouldn't let her. The man took the sheet off of the nail and started to pull it back up into the window. Aracane's green eyes became wider every inch closer she got to the 'dark man'. Her long fingers began to hold on tighter to the sheet turning her peachy skin white. She didn't know what to do, she quickly went over her options through her head. Aracane let go of the sheet and fell to the ground almost right on top of her mother. Aracane put both hands out in front of her to help herself up but her left hand gave way beneath her along with a sharp stabbing pain. She quickly stood up holding her hand she began to run towards  the mystic woods, leaves and twigs crunching underneath her bare feet, she began to pant as she was quickly losing strength in her legs. Her face now dirty, her hands and knees scraped against the tiny rocks. She tried to get up but kept falling back on the ground like bricks were piling onto her back making it impossible to move. The white mist began to form around her surroundings. She kept trying to stand but now her legs wouldn’t let her, like they were paralyzed. Mud splashed on her whit nightgown as she squirmed as if tied by rope. Now with adrenaline pumping through her body she tried standing again but still nothing. She closed her eyes not wanting to see what would come out of the white fog. She heard the neighing of a horse. Confused she opened her eyes and saw that a hooded man rode a black horse. Tears came to her eyes as she thought that this was the end. The man got off of his horse and walked toward Aracane, squatting down before her, he lifted her chin with the side of his left index finger making her look up at him. She held her eyes closed again not wanting to see the ghastly red eyes that were going to reappear. Overwhelmed with fear of her worst nightmare coming true, her heart beating faster and faster she finally fell into the 'sleep of no return’.
