Cat & Cricket

It is jumping. The foolish thing, coming closer to my almighty paws. I remain still, stiller, despite the exhilaration that is filling in my chest. I don’t even let my nose twitch. Stupid insect, I think gladly as the cricket hops closer. Soon, I will have my afternoon snack. I slowly begin to raise my paw. He will be mine. And just as I go for the swipe, the silly inferior jumps away. Despite its soundlessness, I know it is laughing. My eyes widened in fury, I scurry sleekly forward, determined not to starve, as my servant hasn’t fed me that dry grub they call ‘cat food’ today.             The cricket continues to prance away, cackling in triumph. I go for another swipe, and it swerves off of the rocks by the pond and into the grass. Argh, accursed grass! The servant hasn’t mowed for ages. It tickles at my nose, and makes me perfectly hearable. It crunches under my paws and makes me sneeze and itch, but I mustn’t stop my chase!             I open my eyes again, slowing slightly as I come into a particularly difficult area of grass, and see the cricket sitting peacefully on a blade of grass. I slow even more, and lower myself onto my belly. I must stay as undetectable as possible. My eyes never leave the cricket as I barely shift along. I don’t even blink. The cricket stays still as if carved into stone. Even the wind knows not to move.             I am inches from the insect now, ready to swipe, only a little bit closer…...             And the cricket leaps out of my sight, somewhere deep inside the grass.             Cricket Heads! I stare longingly as the wind decides to move again. The cricket doesn’t rise again.             I furiously stalk off back to the porch, where with any luck, I’ll get to claw my servant’s leg for not mowing.

Very amusing and well written. :P I like how the cat refers to his owner as his servant. Very typical of a cat.

Sarah: Thanks :-) I semi-based the cat off of one of mine-only mine's a bit nicer :-D

OFG: Haha, go right ahead. I prolly will too :-D. The other kitty curse word is Mouse Tails.

Cricket Heads and Mouse Tails, that was good!   I like the part about him getting mad at his 'servant' for not mowing.
