Do you remember when I left a note on a SOL chapter that said I was going to soon post a short story contest submission that didn’t win??
Well, I was wrong.
It happened this way.
I suppose it all started in December-ish, when the member Clare showed me a contest for a magazine, and I entered a story. (Thanks so much, Clare!)
You may or may not know I have a new baby sister, Caroline Faith, who just came home from the hospital yesterday. (That’s something I want to write about, too!) Well, my mom kept calling me so I could help her load pictures of the baby onto her Facebook. (I myself don’t have one.) So when she called me for the third time, I wasn’t thrilled.
Then she showed me this.
Dear Anna,
Congratulations!
Your story, "We Must Follow", was selected from the entries we received as the winner of the 2009 Tarpeian Rock short story contest. As such, the story will appear on our website and is slated to publish in our 2009 print issue which will be going to press next week.
Before it does, however, we like to give the authors a chance to look
over a PDF proof. I hope to send you that by the end of this week, so
please keep an eye out for it.
As soon as the issue is printed, we'll be sending you several gratis
copies of the magazine, along with your award check for $50. I notice that we do not have your mailing address. Could you please provide it?
Also, we usually include a brief bio at the end of each story. For the young writer's contest winners, this generally includes the winner's name, age, and the state they're from. Could you let me know if that's ok?
Well done and best wishes!
Tony Schiavo

I can have any of my family members testify that then and there I flipped my lid and started flying around the house, almost waking Caroline and smothering them with hugs.
It won. It won.
That’s all that was running through my head.
I though for sure it wouldn’t have. After all, what chance did I stand against 18-year-olds? (Eighteen was the age limit.) And after March 15, when they said they would notify the winner, I knew it was over.
But it wasn’t.
And I am going to be published!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D
Have you ever been published?
If you haven’t, you can’t possibly imagine the heart-flutterings I experienced, or the way my fingers are now dancing across the keyboard.
Oh wow. Oh WOW!!
To see the rules for the contest and the picture I wrote it from (it would be the first one), go
here. Maybe soon it will be on the site- who knows? :D

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!
I already congratulated you on your baby sister [on your blog], but I have to congratulate you about your story!!!!! WOW!!
Needless to say I'm sad I didn't win. :( But I wasn't expecting I would, because I didn't feel like I put 100\% into my story. Plus, none of the drawings inspired me.
But I'm so happy for you!! Can't wait to see your story published!! :D

Yeah for Anna!
Oh Wow! (that sounds familiar). I don't mean to be wierd, but you sound like Jo when she gets her story published. So, are still shouting joy at the world? Is everyone bowing at your published feet? Is the new drooling infant screaming laughter instead of hungry sobs (congratulations on the drooling infant by the way)?
Now all you need to do is finish Star Over Llorleya and get it published.

Yeah! Go Anna! Nice job. I looked at the pictures, and the only one I could think of a story for was the flying turtle-like thing. Congratulations!

Me: He can't. He's in the wilderness.
