Why all of this is blamed on me...

There’s trouble these days, both in distant lands,
And here at home on every hand;
From the mountains to the ocean strand,
It’s never hard to find:

The king is away in a foreign war,
A crack runs through my own front door,
My neighbor has lost his finest boar,
And my cows have not come home.

A rowboat sank in the village pond,
And three of the king’s best ships are gone;
My tone-deaf aunt composed a song
And asked my mother to sing.

Still my cows have not come home, alas,
They’re eating in my garden patch,
The country’s fleet has been attacked
By pirates from the south,

I cooked my neighbor’s favorite goose
(an honest mistake, and that’s the truth),
And the captured pirates have gotten loose
To sail the seas again.

A battle is raging on the sea,
My brother fell from the apple tree,
And all of this is blamed on me,
So now I’ll tell you why:

It came one day in the spring of the year,
That the sun was bright and the harvest near,
And I said to my mother: “Dear,
There’s something I must say.

“When the air is warm and the sun is bright,
And the moon shines bright as day at night,
I cannot think but that all is right,
And that nothing can go wrong!”

This just came to me the other night while I was making dinner so I wrote it down. My brothers both expressed the opinion that it was more or less the most horrendous waste of paper since "Pride and Prejudice", but I thought I'd put it up anyway. I guess my serious side just can't survive in the open for too long : )

Whether that was suppose to be funny or not, it was very funny. The rhythm was funny, the rhyming pattern was funny, the words were funny....I think we can safely say, that it was somewhat amusing.
It confuses me though, that you composed it while making dinner.....because 1. do you actually like to cook? and 2. I think the hard and lonely task of doing the dishes, is much better suited for the art of poem writing. Just a thought. I think that doing the dishes (unless you were fortunate enough to own a dish washer) is a wonderful time of solitude, for thinking up poetry, songs, story ideas, and important and world changing essays. Trying to get to sleep is great for that too. I wrote 'Death's Song' when I was trying to go to sleep.....oh my!....is that the kind of thing I think about when I'm trying to go to sleep?

Great poem. Made me laugh. Here I'll give you proof Ha! Ha! Ha!

1. Yes, I love to cook. 2. Doing the dishes is usually much better for writing than cooking is. That night was an exception. We do own a dishwasher, but there is so much limestone in our water that it doesn't work, so it just gets used as a giant drain rack.
I told my brothers that they're nuts - Caleb says "Thanks".
And thanks to all of you who read this poem. Glad I could make you laugh!

Brother: Your character should drive a motorcycle.
Me: He can't. He's in the wilderness.
Brother: Then make it a four-wheel-drive motorcycle!

I probably would have said the same thing. :)

That was good! A pessimist after my own heart! JK.
Btw, you can tell your brothers I think they're nuts. Pride and Prejudice a waste of paper?? Well, boys will be boys I suppose.

Ha ha! I am so very glad I dug this up! I love it!! My favorite bits are the unfortunate goose, the cows who refuse to come home and the tone deaf aunt.
