Wolfgang Wilde was a man of his ease
He had no direction but that of the breeze
He walked down the road at a leisurely pace
His destination was the nearest place
The Wonderful Wolfgang Wilde.
On the side of a hill he came to a town
A grand sort of place though ‘twas up side down
The houses were tall, the people were short
And monkeys ran the governor’s court
The Wonderful Wolfgang Wilde!
The horses were pink, the chickens were blue
And the shortest mouse was five foot two
The books had no titles, the pens had no ink
And the geese and the ducks swam around in the sink
The Wonderful Wolfgang Wilde?
The speech was a mixture of sounds monkeys made
While the dogs meowed and the pussy cats bade
Men danced in the street while the children ran singing
And all this time every doorbell was ringing.
The Wonderful Wolfgang Wilde?
Wolfgang stared amazed at the site
He’d been walking all day and some of the night
Maybe all this was just an illusion
A product of exhausted confusion
The Wonderful Wolfgang Wilde?
He stood for a moment in deep concentration
Alone in a world of his imagination
He pondered the matter, went this way and that
He stood on one foot and took off his hat
The Wonderful Wolfgang Wilde?
At last he decided he knew what to do
He’d stop up his ears and walk straight on through
Said he to himself, "It’s no business of mine,
If they want to go bonkers, okay then, that’s fine."
The Wonderful Wolfgang Wilde.
And he did as he said, he walked right through it all
The monkeys, the horses, that mice that were tall.
The duck and the chickens, the men as they danced
The children, the doorbells and never once glanced
The Wonderful Wolfgang Wilde.
When he was a mile or two out of town
He stopped for a moment, and calmly sat down
"I wonder," said he, "if I have gone mad."
So saying he rose, and decided he had.
The Wonderful Wolfgang Wilde!
