Have you ever seen a poodle chase his tail?
His gaping jaws and panting seem to wail:
“I must get it! I must have it! It is Mine!”
The curly pom-pom bobs just inches from his nose,
The wobbly circle whirls faster as excitement grows,
Stumping loose-jointed limbs and furry feet,
Trying desperately to make both ends meet.
“Must must get it! must must have it! It is Mine!”
His white teeth flash, his pink tongue hangs,
He tries to see his goal through thick black bangs,
But alas—alack! No matter how hard he strains;
His hindquarters retreat as fast as his front end gains.
“I want it! I need it! It has to be Mine!”
A flash of insight! A glorious epiphany!
Oblivious to all else, he brings his dream to be,
He stops, and in one miraculous bend,
He clamps his jaws down on the climax of his back end.
“I got it! I have it! It is MINE!!”
“—now what?”
With a mouthful of his own fur he stands, perplexed.
He’s gained the elusive toy. What next?
Pondering, he attempts to pull his prize free,
Pulling his rear in a circle, as he decides what his next move will be.
“I’ve got it. I have it. So what? It’s mine.”
Then, as abruptly as he attacked it, he lets it go,
Forgetting he even wanted it seconds ago.
He raises his shaggy head in a fuzzy smile,
And trots away from the object that bobs behind him all the while.
“I must find something! I must have something!”
“It will be MINE.”

Thanks!
I'm glad you liked it.
As to how I thought of it... I saw it. It's a true story. :P I witnessed our pet poodle "catch" his tail and the first line sprang into my head, which led to a second line, ect. ect.

This was very fun to read. I like to watch my brother's cat chase her tail. It's so funny. She's just sitting there and then aout of the corner of her eye she sees this THING twiching. So she attacks it and when she finaly grabs it she bites down hard and then just and turns around trying to figure WHO bit her.

Hee hee. This was hilarious. You did such a good job rhyming this. You have a very strange dog. My dog chews her foot. Why? I haven't the slightest idea.

Thank you guys! your comments are encouraging, to say the least.
I'll have to tell our poodle that he's famous now. He'll probably want to know if that means more food, or things to chase, or both. I don't think it'll matter to him, he isn't picky. He just has the attention span of a goldfish.

Wow
That was hilarious! How did you ever think to write a poem about a poodle chasing his tail? I think that it is really good.
