I hope you knew
That I loved you,
that you made me laugh
on the dreary days.
I hope you knew
That I admired you,
how you faced each challenge
with poise and strength.
I hope you knew
That I was inspired by you,
your bravery and courage
in times of turmoil.
I hope you knew
that I respected you,
for your tenacity
in breaking barriers.
I hope you knew
that I am grateful to you,
for always being there
and soothing my sorrow.
I hope you knew
what you meant to me.
I hope you knew
what you will always mean to me.
I hope you knew
my grandma, my friend,
I will never forget you.
Well, I found out last night that a family friend had died suddenly. On top of that, late this morning I found out that my surrogate grandma died. She is who I am dedicating this poem to. She was an incredible lady that I had known for over half my life. She was a nurse in WWII and also trained B51 pilots how to read their instrument panels. She was the kind of lady who would spend all day visiting the sick and volunteered for everything. She went through much loss in her life, including losing her only son in the Vietnam War. When my blood-relative grandparents died a few years back, I told her that I didn't have any grandparents left alive anymore. She just smiled and said, "Well, I'll be your adopted grandma!" and she was. I will miss her so much. She demonstrated the type of woman I wanted to become. It appears this is going to be a season of grief for me. Thank you so much again my AP family for your support. I love you all!

Life is dealing you a tough
Life is dealing you a tough hand right now, but I hope your writing is able to give you some peace. Thank you for telling us about this extraordinary woman--I'm lucky to have someone in my life who is very similar. She often brings tears to my eyes with her stories and wisdom. She's had a life well-lived, and we're fortunate to be able to celebrate her ninety-fifth birthday with her today. She came to America from Australia after marrying her husband during WWII. She's an example of independence, of strength, of faith. She's my "adopted" grandma as well, and I'm glad to find we have this wonderful thing in common! Best of thoughts heading your way, and again, we are here for you. <3

Thanks Homie :)
Thanks Homie for your lovely comment :) Yes, writing has been helping me a lot during this time. I have a few more pieces I have written and perhaps after I polish them a bit, I will upload them here. Thank you for reading about my "grandma". I am so happy for you that you have your own adopted grandma too! Isn't it such a blessing? So much can be learned from their generation. Somehow they broke so many barriers and still act like such ladies. They seemed to have found that harmony I think so many women search for today. I am glad we have such a wonderful thing in common too Homie :) Give your adopted grandma an extra hug and be sure to let her know how much she means to you! Thanks so much for the well wishes and for being here ;) Love ya and blessings to you!

My dear friend I am so very sorry for your losses!! I lost my own adopted grandmother many years ago and it certainly leaves a big void. Your grandmother sounds like an amazing woman and I'm sure that you will carry on her legacy in your own life.
I don’t thrive off of chaos: chaos thrives off of me.
