Going Down is Easy

Going down is pretty easy,
Going up will take some time.
We can take the curves around this hill,
But go down in a straight line.

Going down is pretty easy,
It only takes a shove.
Going up will take some effort,
And we’ll need to learn to love.

I remember where we were before,
And how suddenly we fell.
How we’ll get that high again,
Is really hard to tell.

Looking up from where we stand,
The top does not look near.
We’d better take each other’s hand,
And start again from here.

And I think that maybe in the end,
We’ll find we’ve come so far.
And maybe standing on the heights,
We’ll find that going down is hard.

I love this poem. It is both simple to read and profound to think about. Thank you!
