Tragedy

Edmund's Sunset

Unbroken mists upon the water
Veil the island’s silhouette;
Just a shadowland, it caught her
Soul in its relentless clutch
With just a touch of violet
Amid an iridescent grey.

Alone, she stood and gazed far yonder,
Drawn unto the dusky light—
‘twas a sight to make one ponder
All the beauty of the world:
The water pearled with ripples, white,
When sunlight fades, when rests the day.

The Shadow of Light

Scarlet frantically rushed around the battle field. "Gaelen!?" She cried into the darkness, no response. "Gaelen!?" She called again. It had been three hours, three lonely, awful hours. The sun was just barely under the horizon, filling the field with an eerie, blue light.  "Gaelen!" Scarlet sobbed "Dear God, please don't let him be dead!" She whispered between tears. She looked around her feet. Hundreds of bodies lay everywhere and the blood flowed like a stream.

Feasts of Yesterday

The cloth sweeps against the floor,
Long ago embroidered with care, fit
For many people to admire while they ate.
Now white is red by drink and brown from gravy,
Grease-stained from spills and careless children. [5]
The plates are crooked on the edge,
Crumbs tumbling on the chairs,
Which knock each other, knock the table,
For those who sat in them, having devoured,
Abandon the mess and repose in other places. [10]
Once this barren table sparkled with wineglasses
Under the lamps overhead, electric and piercing.

Excerpt: Honesty and Honor

Prologue:
Tristan’s triceps stained as he crossed his broadswords over his head. He inhaled and watched the dust settle around his feet.
“Are you man enough to fight a youth of sixteen?” jeered a spectator.
“Sixteen? The dirty whelp looks fifteen,” Tristan’s opponent laughed.
Tristan arched an eyebrow, surprised that neither knew that he was thirteen.
The dust churned again as the older man aimed his sword at Tristan's heart and lunged. “I’ll show him for a fight!”

Rest in Peace

Rest in peace, little one

Rest in peace

Your troubles are over, little one

Rest in peace

You looked death in the face

Little one

And did not flinch

Pain

Oh, the pain you endured

All because of your love,

Little one

Be not afraid

They talk of justice, little one

They talk of peace

But who, little one, noticed

When you suffered?

Pray, little one

You are safe now

My Dance With Love

Submitted by Ian on Wed, 05/06/2009 - 05:06

Did I read the stories wrong
Were all the old songs untrue
The tapestries woven, long and grand
Told endings that I thought would be
I didn't think that I would stumble
Or get lost within my feelings

Yet Love, dressed in her gown of red and white
Danced before my eyes, transfixing my gaze
Passion pushed me near her,
I took her hand in mine,
With her I danced for hours as the stars shined
Joy sweeping through me like a warm summer's breeze,
Nothing as sweet as when I kissed her soft cheek
