The World was Small, the Woods were Deep

Submitted by Hannah W. on Mon, 01/12/2009 - 18:45

The world was small,
the woods were deep,
the stag with a cross
did run and leap
his antlers twining, like the trees
their branches winding
in the breeze
The cave was dark,
the stars were bright
stories written in them
poems and songs they used to sing
before the wind did take them
The seas were great,
the fires blazing
the warriors ran,
their torches raising
with spears and bows, and swords to pierce
silver dripping, shining
eyes so fierce

Snow, Snow, from the Gray, Gray Sky

Submitted by Hannah W. on Sat, 01/10/2009 - 20:22

Snow, snow,
from the gray, gray
sky
white and glistening
where rooftops blend
into smooth gray sky
and blackbirds sit
on the wires overhead
crisscross stark
against gray, gray
like bark on the maple
out behind the fence
reaching up, up, up,
like reaching hands
stretching fingers
tring to catch the big, thick flakes
as they fall, fall
and there's so much world here
my boots crashing through
silent steps
cries of delight
ringing through gray, gray
sky

How Lovely God Must Think the World

Submitted by Hannah W. on Mon, 12/22/2008 - 14:46

How lovely God must think the world
to look upon us in it
and smile down, and blessings give
until the day is finished

And how lovely He must think this world
of air and soil and stone,
to send someone to walk among us:
His son, His very own

How lovely God must think the sheep,
and the big old brown-eyed cow
For His son was in a stable born
and still is with us now

How lovely God must think a song,
to let it ring across the sky
the many musical voices
of angels there on high

World Slept?

Submitted by Bernadette on Tue, 10/28/2008 - 02:01

Many have slept, but not all
Many have awakened, but not all
The world never sleeps?
Not all

As the sun rises, it sets
As the sun sets, it rises
As the moon rises, it sets
As the moon sets, it rises

So tell me, dear, does the world sleep?
Does it rest, so not a thing is awake?
But you have said: the sun always rises
Always sets

The world is always awake
The world is always asleep
How can that be?
It can be
Because the world is a ball

The Amazing World of Colors!

Submitted by Maddie J-3 on Tue, 03/11/2008 - 20:42

Have you ever wondered about the world’s colors? Why the sky is that baby blue shield. Why the grass that ripples in the breeze holds that dark, fresh green? The sun brilliantly shines its yellowness down to earth. What if it was all different?! What if the sky was a bright green! And the grass and trees all blue. The sun would shine its splendid purple onto the earth. Close your eyes and try to picture this. Go ahead! It would be fun to color a coloring book like this! The tree’s bark a pure white! The water sparkles with a bold orange! But when you open your eye’s.
