How Long

Submitted by Hannah D. on Sat, 10/24/2015 - 01:18

In the midst of the historical accounts of Israel in the Old Testament, there exists this jewel of a verse:

And Elijah came to all the people, and said, “How long will you falter between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him.” But the people answered him not a word.

What’s so hard about being a Christian? Part 1: Sacrifice

Submitted by Wings of Eternity on Fri, 05/01/2015 - 17:12

I know you likely read that title and thought that it could be read multiple ways. That, my friends, is a deliberate choice in ambiguity. Many would read that title and think I am going to talk about how it is so difficult to be a Christian. I am instead going to pose the question the other way: Why does everyone else think it is so hard to be a Christian? This is part 1. I am going to focus on the topic of sacrifice.

True Follower

To understand a starving soul
To follow gentle prodding
To be compassionate to a man
To reach past a reputation
To be a true child of the lamb

That wolf in white, innocent apparel
That breaks through and steals
That hard hearted man full of hate
That never shows Christ’s love
That shows himself by his cruel works

Let us be true children of the Lord
Let us help the dying world
Let us show hope to the hopeless
Let us feed the weary man
Let us be the shining light in bleakness

The Virgin Birth

Submitted by Benjamin on Thu, 12/20/2012 - 07:12

“Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, ‘Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.

In the previous parts of this essay, we examined the written scriptures of the LDS (latter-day saints) church, discovering the flaws in them. In this part, we will examine the spoken scriptures of the Mormon church, demonstrating that the Mormon view of Scripture is incompatible with the orthodox Christian view. We will also examine these spoken scriptures to determine their trustworthiness.

The Truth About Mormonism (Part 3): The Internal Test

Submitted by Benjamin on Mon, 11/05/2012 - 00:02

In the last part of this essay, we analyzed the accuracy of The Book of Mormon using the external test. In this next part, we will move on to examine the Mormon scriptures through the second test: the internal test. We will use this test to determine whether or not the Mormon scriptures* agree with each other. After all, if they contradict each other, at least one, and possibly all, of them lose much of their credibility.

A couple of months ago, I was at a national debate tournament, watching a semi-final round. As the debate progressed, one of the debaters attempted to make the claim that the U.S. had limited itself to bombing only munitions dumps in a certain conflict and that no civilian life had been taken. However, the other debater, in his next speech pointed out several flaws in the claim.

In the United States’ upcoming presidential election, we are faced with two candidates from the two major opposing parties: democrat and republican. The democrat candidate we know and are familiar with: Barrack Obama, our president for the past four years. But what of the republican candidate, Mitt Romney? Who is he? What does he believe? If you are like the majority of Americans, you probably don’t have a clue. Whether by intent or otherwise, Mitt Romney has successfully kept secret what he truly believes, when it comes to the realm of politics, from most Americans.

Who am I?

Written when I was 9 years old.....

~

Who am I?

That I have gone away the same and have come back new

Changing in a blink of an eye; Or have I just changed what I do

Who am I?

That my eyes see different than what I saw

A person shining more beautiful than the moon’s light

Someone who always protected me who I never knew before

Who am I?
