As the World Goes By

Submitted by Johanna on Mon, 02/02/2009 - 00:41

Through many years of change I've stood,
Seeing many creatures live and die.
Yet I'm dissatisfied and sigh
To sprout wings like eagles and fly.
But as I'm a tree of the wood,
I must watch all the world go by.

I have seen children grow from babes,
Now grown, with children of their own.
I've heard my dear friends moan and groan,
Crashing to earth, forever gone
Without a farewell or goodbye.
But still I watch the world go by.

Song of the Things that I Always Will Be

Breathless darkness,
sparks in the air
Scattering stars
wind in my hair

Tumbling through fields,
light touch of feathers
Song of the earth
echoes forever

Heartbeat and dirt,
trees sway in the night
Shadows and flame
glowing orange, bright

Smell of the forest
cool air on my cheeks,
running, heart soaring
no words do I speak

Orion the Brave,
with his arrows and bow
he hunts in the sky
and the way he does show

First Snow

Fragile fairy structures
Climbing up your window
Tell you what has come,
What is to be
Again.
It makes you
Smile.
Run outside
Spread your arms
To the falling snow
It urges you
To let go
And smile.
Snowflakes
Caught in your hair
And on your lashes
Sparkle and shimmer
Like a million jewels-
Like the stars above,
They wink, they twinkle
They set off
Your smile.
Great black trees
Tower against the sky,
Against the purple twilight,
