Like A Willow Tree Dances

I hear some far-off song
or perhaps a little ditty,
And I may hum along
as I stroll throughout the city.

A dove begins to croon
the song I heard the world singing
it is a mournful tune
while that bird ‘round me is winging

But I skip through the crowds,
ignoring all the staring folk,
(I know my smile clouds
their somber lifestyle’s yoke.)

How can I bring myself
to sorrow for their discomfort?
Should joy be on a shelf,
Till no one objects or retorts?

Happiness is to me
better than sadly belonging;
silently conforming.
Why frown when one can sing?

So I’ll dance throughout life,
pirouetting ‘round obstacles.
I’ll avoid needless strife,
and trouble’s grasping tentacles.

I love the rhyming in this poem, and the message it portrays, too.

"So I’ll dance throughout life,
pirouetting ‘round obstacles.
I’ll avoid needless strife,
and trouble’s grasping tentacles."

That is very good. The image "grasping tentacles" is great. Good job!!

This is so refreshing- I loved your wording and rhythm. Great job!

The last two parts--my favorite. "Why frown when one can sing?"
And that last part, about dancing around obstacles. I like the imagery. Very nice!

Thank you all! I was trying quite hard in this to put more description, instead of making it more feel-sy. If that makes sense.
