I rode my bicycle home in the rain,
the gentle hum of the tires on wet pavement accompanied by the distant rumble of thunder.
I lifted my face to the sky,
hard, wet drops splashed onto my already wet face and collected in the corners of my eyes and, finally, dripped down my damp cheeks in a celestial form of tears.
I was silent, and watched my surroundings;
I rode my bicycle home in the rain;
the gentle hum of the tires on wet pavement accompanied by the distant rumble of thunder.
I lifted my face to the sky,
hard, wet drops splashed onto my already wet face and collected in the corners of my eyes and, finally,
dripped down my damp cheeks in a celestial form of tears.
I was silent, and watched my surroundings;
a dusty and dirty world being renewed in seconds
by the thunderclouds’ bountiful gift.
I was ecstatic at the beginning of the end of a long, hot summer.
My joy matched the ferocity
of the vibrant, slashing bolts of lightning streaking across the dull, gray clouds.
I stretched my shoulders,
suddenly feeling the heaviness of the backpack strapped to me,
and realized the depth of my weariness.
I turned onto my street, as the wind picked up,
turning the gentle rain into a harsh, stinging spray.
The sky became darker,
The thunder became ominous;
dark promises of a restless, stormy night.
The rain glued my shirt to my skin, the wet cotton clinging tight despite my exertions.
I turned into my driveway,
my dog was shivering by the door.
I put my bicycle away and walked into the house, letting my canine friend go before me through the door.
I sat and looked out the window, still wet but safe and happy, my devoted dog by my side.

This was really enjoyable, Sarah. Not very long ago I took about a thirty minute bike ride in the rain and came home drenched; and although I admit it wasn't the brightest idea, it was great fun. :D
