“In a few decades, the relationship between the environment, resources and conflict may seem almost as obvious as the connection we see today between human rights, democracy and peace.”
-Wangari Maathai (1940 – 2011), environmental activist. In 2004 she became the first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize.
Step lightly on the earth
Preserve it for the tenth generation to follow in your footsteps.
Will they tread on a path or wade through a waist-deep ditch?
How will your actions effect the world in which we must reside?
Life daily being eradicated by our actions.
How presumptuous to think we’re the only beings that matter.
We scoff at “save the honeybees!”
Without them,
in three decades,
we die.
Exponential expansion of population.
Have you heard of carrying capacity?
The finite number of a species that our biosphere can support?
Yeah, we passed that about a trillion people ago.
Immature people spawning offspring
for fleeting emotional gain.
No thought for the future.
Our representatives deny the obvious.
No such thing as climate change?
Spew toxic emissions while the glaciers vanish.
We will not have a tenth generation.
Hubris: it shall be our downfall.

I really liked reading this; interesting and a fresh perspective on this topic. Loved your wording and also how you made it casual at the same time as slightly formal. :P

Goodbye? Oh no, please. Can’t we just go back to page one and start all over again?” – Winnie The Pooh
