Sara Layton never saw this guy. She narrowed her eyes, staring at him across the park. Who is he? She felt a nudge in her side, and looked away from the new guy.
"You're staring, Sara," scolded Lynda Roberts, "that isn't polite."
Sara rolled her eyes. "I know, Lynda. Wanna go introduce ourselves?"
Lynda burst into laughter, flinging the basketball at Sara. "Yeah right!"
"What? it'd be nice of us!" She caught the ball. Dribbled, shot and missed. Not a surprise there; she always missed.
Lynda caught the ball, and shot. Perfect swish. She smirked at Sara.
The stranger spoke, catching them both off guard. "Good shot."
Lynda's cheeks reddened. "Thanks."
He gave a small smile. Sara noticed the left corner of his mouth curved upwards more than the right side, giving him a crooked smile. "I'm Logan Thompson."
She stared into his dark blue eyes. Found her voice. "I'm Sara Layton, and my best friend, Lynda Roberts. Wanna shoot some hoops wit' us?" She gave a short, hearty laugh. "I suck jus' to let'cha know."
Lynda passed him the ball. "I don't do too bad," she said, "how about yourself?"
He winked. "I'm awesome. Just watch."
For the next fifteen minutes they did. And he rarely missed. They were stunned; he was good!
Afterwards they walked down the street to the gas station to get something to drink. Sara talked a lot on the way.
"I'm 16, and a junior. I'm an only child," she said. "I don't mind as much as I once did. What about you?"
Logan grinned. "I have a little brother. He's 7, and is a handful. Has way more imagination than I ever did."
"What grade are you in?" Sara asked, changing subjects.
"I'm in my last year. I'm going to college next fall. I have a whole year left before college. Yay."
"You don't wanna go?" That was Lynda.
"No way. My parents are making me." Sara didn't think that was right, but didn't say anything.
He continued to answer all of Sara's questions.
He had just moved from his hometown 3 weeks ago, right before school started. He had turned 18 back in June, and got his liscene when he was 16. He had gotten a black Firebird with teatops for his 18th birthday.
His little brother, Cade, imitated Logan's every move, and wanted to be just like him, even play on the basketball, and football team.
Logan was very athletic, and all sports came naturally to him. He was funny, and a leader. Both his parents worked, and he had a job, so Cade was usually at a friend's house all day.
And then they were a few questions he evaded, so Sara didn't press the matter.
"So," Lynda finally said, "do you work out?"
"Yeah. Every other day. The days in between I jog." He winked. "I also eat healthy."
Sara grinned. "Don't smoke, huh?"
"No way! I'm a totally healthy person. I take care of my body."
Two hours later, the threesome split ways. Logan stopped Sara when he realized Lynda had gone too far to stop. "Sara!"
She stopped, and turned. Walked closer. "Yeah?"
"May I have your number?"
She lifted an eyebrow. He chuckled. "How am I suppose to talk to you if I never see ya?"
"Oh...right." She flushed, and rattled off her cell phone number. "I also have texting, so if you don't wanna call."
He nooded, then turned and walked away. Sara watched him go. Man, he was hot! Not that looks were everything. He was hot and a had a great personality.
On her way home her thoughts were of Logan Thompson. The tall, dark haired, blue-eyed muscled guy with a deep voice and a husky laugh. Who could make practically every shot in basketball. Who could shoot a handgun perfectly.
How could she not be attracted to him?
