old dog

The old dog lay content in front of his old house and old tree--
comfortable with himself and his world.

Well, men, women, and children-- the old and the young-- walked by his land,
people who were entangled with their longings.
their inner souls so clouded and perplexed
that they can't even appreciate or take in the light of day
nor the dark of night.

Walking as blind old beggars with eyes turned inwards,
turned only towards inner turmoil and want.

Walking as if in a shadow of longing and despair,
walking as shadows under the sun,
walking in a shadow land.
