Close your eyes Click your heels One, two, three times Thinking, whispering, wishing “There’s no place like home,” Ignoring the terrified screams you hear And the silent ones inside “There’s no place like home,” Blind to the monsters Under the bed and in the mirror “There’s no place like home” A prayer to be taken away A plea for escape Before you open your eyes Blinking back the tears as you stare At the once white tennis shoes On your feet No ruby slippers And the broken sidewalk slab Beneath you No yellow brick road One tear that dared to hope Falls and shatters on the front porch step Because you know there are a thousand places Like home
