New World

I remember when we watched the sunrise over the river,
And we imagined dragons flying above, making the clouds into oceans.
The sky seemed to split apart, and fire rained down over us,
And we spilled into a new world that we made.

I remember when we walked through green hallways,
The trees making vaulted ceilings to our palace of fantasy.
We were dressed in all the trappings of wild princesses,
And we raced through the hidden tunnels of the new world we made.

I remember when we climbed those mountains of our fears,
And voyaged the oceans of our inner thoughts.
When our only lifelines were the grasp of each other's hands,
And we pulled each other through the caverns of the world we made.

I remember when we found our world had been filled with new people,
No longer just the two of us mapping the wilderness of our own homes.
We found ourselves surrounded by royalty not of our making,
And they welcomed us as queens in the new world we made.

Beautiful! You really captured what it's like to run through imaginary worlds. With your first stanza, you immediately put me into a concrete place -- and then that place immediately tilted me upside down, with strange things like dragons and fire rain, and I "spilled" (loved that word use) into your imaginary world, too!

Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad I was able to get my idea across, I was worried the lack of rhyme scheme would throw people off.
This was inspired by the games my best friend and I used to play in the woods behind her house. I really wanted to capture the childlike wonder of creating your own world to play in, and I'm glad you understood and enjoyed it!

Oh for the times when I felt invincible.
