(Late) 4th of July Poem

You hear it before
Then it threatens to deafen
A flower of bright colored light
Tendrils of little sparkles fall
Gravitating back to the earth
To the water below.
Would your run from such beauty?
Would you cower guiltily?
Would you cry for the men
Who risked their lives
"For freedom" they had cried
Sometimes you think
"What were they thinking?"
Why did they rebel?
Were their lives worth liberty?
For some of us it's clear
For the others it's just "because"
What does liberty mean for you?
Does it stir your insides
Does it make you feel stronger?
Does it resonate somewhere deep inside?
Or does it make no sense at all?
Some believe that our freedom is
"Being taken from us!"
What does this mean?
Riots only draw the negative energy.
Wouldn't it be better
To focus on "peace"
Instead of "war".
"Happiness" and "Love"
They will never be able
to "Take" the freedom of "loving"
"caring" and "happiness"
You may argue.
But "everyone is created equal" right?
You equally have the ability
To perceive what you want
To focus on the good
To make a difference
In YOU
