I press my face against the glass,
and peer into the night, so vast.
Up at the stars, so far above,
and think of that sweet act of Love.
Twas all so very far away,
and in a very different day,
'Tis rather hard to makebelive
that I was there, that Christmas Eve.
But as I look up at the sky,
I do my very best to try;
And soon I feel the chill of night,
And see a softly glowing light.
I hear the creak of the old door,
My footsteps on the cold, dirt floor;
I smell the scent of sweet, fresh hay,
Mingled with ‘scents of far away’.
I feel the calm of Peace itself;
And treasures worth far more than wealth.
My eyes are opened and I see
A baby, sleeping peacefully.
A Child so small, and yet so grand;
With fuzzy hair and tiny hands.
Right here before my very eyes,
Is Jesus Christ, in quaint disguise.
And then I look upon the face
Of she who was, is, full of grace;
The soft, dark eyes are filled with more
Than I have ever seen before.
She has a look beyond all Bliss;
Beyond all Joy and Love is this.
She gently kisses baby’s head,
And lifts him from his manger-bed.
Behind the virgin, I now see,
A lowly man, on bended knee;
A radiant light shines in his face,
Here is his son, the shrine of Grace.
The baby then begins to stir,
And Mary sings, so soft and sure.
The lullaby rings thro’ the night,
casting out all dread and fright.
Angels join the heavenly song,
from a hill afar by long;
Bringing tidings of great joy,
To the shepherds, man and boy.
My humble, lowly little heart,
Can not help but take a part,
In this graceful, joyful song,
And it caries me along.
Slowly fades that holy light,
And I’m surrounded by the night.
I feel the air grow colder still,
And I am at my window sill.
I turn and gaze into the fire,
Thinking thoughts that so inspire!
Mother’s voice call from the hall,
“Come, my dear, and join us all!”
I step inside the Dining room,
And feel my heart begin bloom;
For in that place I find the light
From where I visited tonight.
