The race then loomed ahead of me –
The long race that would make me free.
Free to run and free to fly;
That was the race before my eye.
I raced laps one, and two, then three,
Yes this lap would really make me free.
Free to run and free to fly;
This was the race before my eye.
The fourth lap then made me want to be
A runner forever – yes, then I’d be free!
Free to run and free to fly;
This was the race before my eye.
Then the fifth lap came after me.
It gave me a stitch, and I was not free.
No freedom to run, no freedom to fly;
Now this was the race before my eye.
I had to quit and defeated be.
That race had not at all made me free.
No freedom to run, no freedom to fly;
Now this was the race before my eye.
Somehow I can’t just give up; that’s not me.
For I must run. I must be free.
Free to run and free to fly;
This is the race now before my eye.
Tomorrow I’ll run and victorious be.
I’ll run the whole race which will make me free.
Free to run and free to fly.
Yes this is the race before my eye.
Good job!
I rather like this. Literally, I can't relate at all, not being a runner. But I think if put figuratively, everybody could relate to this in some way or another...we all have our own races. Good work! I hope to see more. And welcome to AP! :-)
