Sophie--Prologue

Submitted by Madeline on Fri, 10/29/2010 - 17:49

Did you know that Sophie supposedly means wise-one? I didn’t until my friend, John, pointed it out. We’re best friends. John’s name means god is gracious? Well, that seems to fit John perfectly. God sure must’ve felt gracious when he picked out John’s suit of armor. He’s really clever and a genius and he knows everything. He should have been named Sophie.

Me, Sophie Grace Campbell, isn’t that clever or graceful, which, is, of course what Grace means. I probably should have been named Noleta because that means reluctant. And I’m very, very reluctant about things.

My mother is Santana, which is perfect, because she is saintly. (That’s what her name means.) She a perfect angel, I tell you! She’s never made a single mistake in her life. She’s married to Rick, her new husband.

Rick means wealthy leader. That’s ironic, too, because he’s wealthy and the president of this one company that manufactures organic diapers.

Mom persuaded him to give over a hundred thousand to families in need a few months ago. Now isn’t that saintly?

My older, college-bound sister is Nadine, which means dancer. And my sister is a dancer. She’s majoring in ballet. She’s also breathtakingly beautiful with long, curly blonde hair and bright blue eyes that sparkle.

Four years ago, Rick and mom had my little half-sister. Addison is going to be the popular one. Everyone can tell already. Did I mention Addison means awesome? That fits her perfectly. Addison is awesome.

That leaves my dad to be named. He’s David, which means beloved. I just wonder why, if he was so beloved, he and mom got a divorce. But he’s pretty kind, and his co-workers and friends adore him. He’s married too, with two twin boys, Adam and Adan. Adam means first man, while Adan means bold spirit. Right again!

Is it fair for name meanings to be right for everyone but you? I guess the book writers weren’t thinking when they made all this stuff up.

One more thing about me, I lead a very simple, ordinary life on the outside. I go to school online because being in a classroom was too distracting.

So was recess, especially when it rained.

And I don’t want to tell you why, because you might find me crazy. But, I’ve told you so much now, I might as well tell you my most important, protected secret.

            I can speak to nature.

Awwwh, this is adorable. I was just flipping through some old posts and I realized that I hadn't read this before! It's crazy how much we both have grown in our writing compared to 3 years ago! What is it with 12-13 years olds and names?? Lol.

Awwwwwwwwwwww!!!! Thank you so much for commenting--this is so cute! LOL! I'm calling my thirteen-year-old self cute! :P But seriously, hahah. :D I got a good laugh out of this. Especially all the names. (You can blame Kassady, because she gave me a baby name book so I could find character names, and the end result was this).

Also, David? What is with divorces and the Dad always having that name?? LOL! :D

Lol, I used to be obsessed with names. I legitimately joined baby name forums for the sole purpose of finding weird names for characters when I was like 12 or 13.

Heh, I hadn't seen this before. So I had to add my two cents and say "YESS! OH MY GOSH, YES! I WAS NAME CRAZY TWO YEARS AGO EXACTLY!!"

I started SEVERAL name books, and was just crazy about them, even naming my future children. Ugh.
Cute piece! A long way you've come!

EDIT: I still am a little name crazy :D
