Babysitting is one of the things I do best--or, think I do. I was asked to babysit just earlier today and I took on the challenge. Four boys, one girl, and a jar of unmade popcorn. I sat the boys down to watch Mrs. Doubtfire and got to work. The first batch went smoothy--and it was dished out with chocolate chips. Now I was off to make another batch but noticed hairs had made their way into the popcorn bowl? What could that be? 

After some thinking and consideration, I called an avaliable parent and asked. Turns out, my mom's friend had given her a haircut and the table where I was making all this still had some hairs on it. I sighed and got to work on the bowl. I heated up some new butter and was just drying the base of the bowl when I noticed what it said: Do NOT IMMERSE IN WATER. IF IMMERSED, DRAIN UPRIGHT. Well, of course I had just sprayed it with water. I had to make sure it was completely dry before heating the popcorn up. And did I mention I had burnt a batch before all this hair stuff? I dished the popcorn out and served it. Then I made a final batch. The four boys went upstiars to play, leaving me with a messy living room and a pile of dishes. Oh well. 

I thought it would be horrible, this cleaning up, but I found myself actually pretty happy and I even laughed a little over the events that had happened. What I realized most of all: it may take work to achieve something, work before and afterwards, but the moments in between are completely worth it. People appreciate what you do, and you know you've done SOMETHING right when it's all over. 

And, that to me, was one surprising little moment.
