Last Dance

You stare at me with brooding eyes

While mine are thick with tears

Slowly, your arm secures my waist

Supporting all my fears

Your hand finds mine

The fingers twine

You pull them to your breast

Our breaths are matched

The love is hatched

With pounding of our chests

I realize that we have no time

But you treat it like we do

I decide I will not protest

And speak my love for you

You return

The kindred words

As we shuffled forth

I don't think

Just love I drink

Erasing all my sores

You whisper words against my hair

I try not to forget them

Then there's pounding on the door

Yet we continue our anthem

They break down

I hide a frown

But you pull me to a room

Our dance is done

The battle's won

Now comes our waited doom

You kiss me on my lips

Not the last time, not the first

I pull away and smile

I'm so joyous I could burst

Then you fall

And you call

My name as your heart dies

I'm afraid

To be away

So I stare into your eyes

But they're closed as you said

And my tears are shedding fast

I let the memories wash over me

Remembering our past

The times

You're mine

Then I'm down, too

No scorn

Not torn

Away from loving you

Goodbye, My Prince I think

Taking your rough hand

Reminiscing about the times

You'd always been my man

But now we drift

And you lift

Me up to the clouds

We stand face to face

In this Heavenly place

And finally, life is loud
