The Kingdom of If

The Kingdom of If
Is a lovely place
The only ever fantasy
I’d ever be able to live
Out

I whisper the name
Of its protective
Deceptive
Conceptual
Walls and I
Feel like I’m home
In ways this drab reality
Which
Tears me down with its
Battering rams of
Incessant disappointments
And failure to live up
To the beauty of
Impossible
Impenetrable
Ever glistening
Kingdom of If
Could not
Do for me

I close my eyes
To the swords and
Weapons and
Warpaint
Of Reality
Barbarians
And I smile
To myself
As I whisper
“You cannot
Challenge the
Possibilities of
If”
As I continue to
Wait for the
Pearly
Twirly
Expensive
Immaculate
Walls to show
Its realities
To me

I say
“If only”
“If it was”
“If,
If,
If…

But the walls remain
Closed
As the reality
Remains
That its
Towers,
Tapestries,
Trapdoors,
Shining knights,
Beautiful ladies,
Royal queens
And loyal things
Are all delusional
Mirages.

Wow, this line made me gasp:

As I continue to
Wait for the
Pearly
Twirly
Expensive
Immaculate
Walls to show
Its realities
To me

Pearly twirly was so fun and unexpected and visual
