A Dream is Just a Dream...or is it? Chapter Six (a Narnian fan fiction)

A/N: The Prophecy is taken word by word from the book and you know when some phrases are taken from the book!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“First things first,” the Beaver began. “Mr. Tumnus’ case is sorrowful and gloomy indeed. Without Aslan, there is no hope for him. It’s out of our hands now to help him,” said the Beaver, lowering his eyes as if he was ashamed.
I caught Edmund’s eye. He threw me a smug look. I was shocked! How could someone be so nasty?
The Beaver continued, “Do you remember the red robin that led you to me? She was the bird that had warned me first. You see,” he lowered his voice, “She is our spy. She herself saw Tumnus being taken. But she could only watch helplessly behind the trees. When she saw that they were taking him up North, she flew hurriedly over to my dam. She didn’t even have to tell me what had happened when I knew. I started giving her orders to search for you and to lead you to me.” He paused. “If the Witch found you…then the prophecy…”he trailed off.
“Prophecy?” questioned Peter. “What prophecy?”
“How’s it related to us?” asked Susan.
The Beaver was flabbergasted. “You’re never heard the rhyme-
Wrong will be right, when Aslan comes in sight,
At the sound of his roar, sorrows will be no more,
When he bares his teeth, winter meets its death,
And when he shakes his mane, we shall have spring again.
When Adam's Flesh and Adam's bone
Sits in Cair Paravel in throne,
The evil time will be over and done.
“But it’s not talking about us, is it?” Susan said.
“It is,” I said. “There are four of you, and there are four thrones in Cair Paravel. And when we win the war-oh!” I covered my mouth, remembering my decision not to reveal anything related to the upcoming events of the Pevensies. “Um, never mind! Forget what I said!”
They all looked at me strangely.
“Yes, that is right,” agreed the Beaver. “It IS related to you. At least for the four of you. You see, what the prophecy meant was that one day, she will be gone, spring will come again, and then four of you will reign over us,” the Beaver finished.
“How can that be?” asked Peter, Susan, and Lucy.
“I’ll be king?” Edmund’s eyes lighted up greedily.
“Yes, you,” the Beaver glanced suspiciously at Edmund.
“But we’re not heroes!” said Susan.
“We’re from Finchley, sir.” Said Peter.
“So? It doesn’t matter- Aslan already picked you out!”
Again, that wonderful and thrilling sensation went through me.
“Oh yes, tell us about Aslan!” said Lucy excitedly.
“You don’t know about Aslan, either?” the Beaver said with great wonder.
I reminded him, “We just got here today, you know.”
“Ah, yes, I almost forgot, “he said apologizing. Why, he’s the King and the Lord of the wood! But he doesn’t often come here, though. But word has passed to me that he has come back. In fact, he’s in Narnia right in this moment. He’ll settle the White Witch!”
“The White Witch? Who’s that?” asked Peter and Susan.
“Ah, the White Witch,” said the Beaver. ”She is not a Daughter of Eve. So, she is extremely pale.”
“How?” asked Peter.
The Beaver explained, “There is not a single blood vein in her body at all. When she got here~”
Lucy interrupted, “She wasn’t always here?”
“Don’t interrupt, Lucy!” reprimanded Susan.
Peter added, “Let him continue!”
“Alright,” Lucy looked hurt.
“Aw, don’t scold her,” said the Mrs. Beaver.
The he-beaver cleared his throat. “May I continue my story?” he asked.
“Oh yes, of course. We’re sorry,” said Peter.
“Thank you. Now, so when the Witch came here, and yes, she wasn’t always in this world. Legends say that she is from another world~I forget the name. Well, when she arrived here, she casted a spell that there would be always winter and never Christmas. Now, the reason why I was so worried about you was because of this-you see, the Witch knows about the Prophecy that when four humans sit in Cair Paveral, she would be gone. Therefore, she has spies that roam secretly about to inform her if there are any humans out in the open. If the spies found any humans, they would take them to the Castle~and you know what that means.”
“No, we don’t,” said Susan flatly.
“She would imprison them, and then turn them into stone,” the Beaver said with a shudder.
Everyone had shocked and frightened expressions on his face.
I looked over to Edmund to see if he seemed taken aback. At first, a look of terror fleeted on his face. But in less than a second, his terrorized expression was quickly erased.
He asked,“Can’t the Queen turn Aslan into stone?”
“She! Oh no!” the Beaver laughed. “She can’t even look at his face without trembling with fear.”
“Why ever not? Will we ever get to see him?” Lucy inquired.
“Of course you’ll see him! That’s why you’re here!”
Susan slowly said, “He~is a ~ a man, right?”
“A man!” the Beaver said in shock.” Oh no, definitely NOT! Why he’s a the King of all beasts- a Lion!”
“A lion?!” three voices exclaimed.
Peter asked, “How can we communicate- oh, yes, I forgot all animals can talk,” said Peter with disgust.
“I would be afraid to meet a lion! Is it safe?” remarked Susan.
“Safe! Of course not! But he is good,” said the Beaver.
“I am a little excited to meet him; even though I am slightly nervous,” Peter admitted.
“Me too,” I said quietly.
There was a moment of solemn silence around the table when Lucy cried out ~
“I say, where’s Edmund?”
We turned our eyes alarmingly to see that Ed’s seat was empty. After the frightening realization hit us, the room erupted in chaos.
“Where’s Edmund?”
“Who saw him last?”
“WHERE IS HE??!!”
All of us ran out and started shouting, “Edmund! Edmund! Where are you?! Come back!”
Susan screamed,” EDMUND RAY PEVENSIE!!!!! COME BACK HERE NOW!!!”
“Hush! They’ll hear you!” said the Beaver.
Susan ignored him and shouted at Peter, “This is all your fault! None of this would have happened if you had just listened to me in the first place!
Peter snapped back, “So you knew this would happen?”
“I didn't know what would happen...”she looked like she was going to cry.
“Stop it!” I said. “Shouting at each other doesn’t help find Edmund!!!!”
“Yes, only Aslan can save him now,” said the Beaver
“NO!” screamed Susan. “We have to find him! Pete, you go toward the North, Lucy, you head to the~”
The Beaver interrupted,” Susan, you don’t GET it, do you? We don’t NEED to look for him! We already know where he is! “
“WHERE?!!” all of them asked impatiently.
“Don’t you know? IN THE WITCH’S HOUSE! He’s betrayed us all!”
Silence.
Lucy started getting hysterical.
Susan whispered with terror, “No.”
Peter stood stock still and I just surveyed the scene.
“But wait, he doesn’t know the way!” Susan said hopefully.
Lucy shook her head doubtfully.
“Has he been here before?” the Beaver asked quietly.
“No!” said Peter.
Susan said, “Absolutely not!””
Lucy and I said almost below a whisper, “I’m afraid so.”
The Beaver shook his head. “It figures. I saw it the moment I met him. His eyes--they looked like the ones that have eaten the Witch’s food.”
“But he said--” said Susan.
“Yes, he said,” Peter said sarcastically, “You can’t trust that boy anymore!” he ended angrily.
“Now, now,” soothed the she-Beaver.
The Beaver rebuked, “Yes, stop arguing! What’s done is done. Don’t try to rewrite the past! Why--why are you just standing there?” the Beaver yelled. “We’ve got no time to spare! Edmund is probably in the Witch’s house already. They’ll be here in less than twenty minutes!!”
All at once, everyone started to pack ferociously.
Mrs. Beaver, in full speed started packing food and blankets furiously. “Okay, we’ll need this…Lucy, take those plates in the cupboard! Peter, take all the blankets you can find! Susan, dearie, take these blankets. Anne, please get the… ” She began to give out instructions.
“I see them from a distance!” I cried out frantically.
“Hurry! Hurry! Hurry!” pleaded Lucy.
“Why’d I come here anyway?” Susan screamed.
“Hush your screaming now and get in here!” the Beaver said sharply.
She ignored him and said to Peter, “Do you think we should bring jam?”
Peter said, “Only if the Witch has toast.”
“Get in the tunnel NOW!” the Beaver said impatiently. “Forget about the jam!”
While I got in the tunnel, I said to Peter, “Have faith, Peter. We can do this.”
He turned to look at me and grimaced. “You think so? Well, I don’t.”
You’ll be surprised. I thought.
“OW!” Lucy cried out as she fell.
We ignored her howling and urged her hurriedly to move on.
She fell silent to let out a gasp.
We fell silent as well, only to hear wolves howling ferociously. “They’re in the tunnel!” we all exclaimed in terror.
We ran faster in the tunnel-faster than we had ever ran before.
“Quick! Quick! Faster! Faster! Hurry, hurry, hurry!” we all shrieked as we urged the person in front of us.
The Beaver kept mumbling as he went, “If the prophecy…”
“You should have brought a map!” said Mrs. Beaver to Mr. Beaver.
“There was no room next to the jam!”
Who CARES about the jam or map, let’s get out of here! I thought.
We finally saw an opening. The he-Beaver jumped out of the hole. We quickly followed.
Crash!
“What happened?” I said for I couldn’t see what had happened because I was last to get out.
“I fell,” said Lucy as she got up from a huge pile of statues.
Mr. Beaver cried out tearfully, “He was my best mate!”
“What happened to them?” Susan wondered.
A voice said, “This is what happens to the enemies of the White Witch.”
We all turned around startled.
The he-Beaver clenched his teeth and said, “Stand still, there traitor.”
The fox said,” Relax, I'm one of the good guys.”
“Well you look mighty like one of the bad guys,” He objected.
He sighed, “An unfortunate family resemblance, but we can discuss family breeding later. Right now we need to move.”
“What do you suggest?” asked Peter.
The fox looked up into the tree. In less than a moment, we found ourselves up in the tree holding tightly to one another least we fell.
The fox said amiably,” Evening gents, did we lose something?
The Wolf growled, “Don't patronized me; I know where your allegiance lies. We are looking for some humans.
The fox responded feigning surprise, “Humans in Narnia, now that's some valuable information!”
Maugrim seemed to not be side tracked, “Where are they?!!!”
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Peter closing his hand over Lucy’s mouth.
The Fox stuttered, “They, they, were heading north.”
What a lie! I thought.
Maugrim gave him one last suspicious glance and directed his fellow animals, “Quickly, smell them out.”
---------------
Lucy said worriedly, “Are you all right?”
Susan added, “You're leaving?”
“It has been a pleasure, my Queen. I have been asked by Aslan HIMSELF to gather more troops.” The Beaver said standing up.
“Excuse me?” Susan said. “Did you just say, my Queen?”
“Yes, my queen,” the fox replied.
Susan said frustrated, “Look, I’m not a queen! Stop it!”
“Yes, my Queen,”
“Stop-oh, whatever!”
The Beaver interrupted, “You've seen Aslan!”
Mrs. Beaver asked eagerly, “What is He like?”
“Like everything we have ever heard. He'll be a good help fighting the White Witch!”
Susan said, “We are not planning fighting any witch!”
“Surely King Peter...” the Fox said in his surprise and puzzled.
Peter cut in, “We just want to get our brother back.”
I thought, if you just think you were sent here for no reason, well you’re wrong.
I'm just wondering if you're going to deviate from the story at all. So far, Anne's presence hasn't changed the story at all, which makes me wonder what the point is. I know she's not trying to change it, but you'd think her presence would cause different things anyway. Maybe the beavers would be wondering where the third girl fits into the prophecy, or she'd get scared of the wolves and try to take a shortcut to Aslan's camp with her knowledge of the book, or she forgets some part of it that lands her in trouble, or she simply can't keep up with the Pevensies...
I have hated the words and I have loved them, and I hope I have made them right. --The Book Thief
Weell, I am not planning (or have not) really deviated from the basic plot of the story. Because since the Narnia books are not mine but CS Lewis' I don't really feel comfortable changing the plot.
There are four major main points of this story.
1. So I can fill in little gaps that C.S. Lewis' may have been left out in his book and elaborate on them.
2. So Anne, my main character to have a changed and new view on Narnia.
3. Anne has some spiritual issues and her time in Narnia helps her solve it.
But the final and most important reason is..well, first I need to say that I strongly believe that the Narnia series is an allegory. Thus, i am trying to place a Christian view on any aspects which I think that are very similar to the Bible and use Anne to think out the thoughts.
So no, the plot is not going to change and the main points in this story are listed above.
Thank you so much for asking, Anna :)
