A Giant

A giant
3-21-07

I met the strangest girl today
She may have been elfin, or fairy
She was small, delicate
Straw colored hair
The straw Rumpelstiltzkin spun into gold
Her eyes were velvety gray
They shone with an innocent light
Rimmed with curling lashes
Her mouth was a pink seashell
A flower bud, a sliver of sunset
She grasped my hand
Her tiny, cool fingers winding about my own
One squeeze and they might shatter
Like icicles, only softer
Her pert little nose turned up
Like a fox’s ears, or a brownie’s snout
She looked up at me
Through those pearly-bright eyes
So trusting were those orbs
So quite and gentle
So happy
She said not a word
As I walked along, like a lumbering giant
Beside this elfin wonder
She just made little pearly, happy sounds in her throat
And I smiled
In this great, overwhelming world
It was nice to find a magic bit of quiet smallness
And nice, for once
To be the giant.

that was great! I really enjoyed it.

I have hated the words and I have loved them, and I hope I have made them right. --The Book Thief

This was really good.

"Welcome to the land of little orange fruit." The Brit-some comment somewhere, welcoming someone.

It awoke with a shrill shreak that can be trnaslated "How dare you leave me in this bed, when I am asleep and helpless?" My sister

This was so good. I especially like the lines,
"So trusting were those orbs
So quite and gentle
So happy
She said not a word"
I don't know why, I just do.

"It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God such men lived."
General George S. Patton

This was lovely.

Beware that you do not lose substance in chasing after the shadow.

Exquisite.

-My bro and I have no idea what it means either

Just curious, what did whoever wrote that un-named post up there mean? Losing the substance for the shadow?
If you meant it toward the poem itself - this is actually a true poem. I used to help with this thereputic horse riding program for little kids with handicaps. There was this girl named Sarah - a tiny littl whisp of a thing with just the sweetest personality. She'd just walk up to me and take my hand...lovely little kid.
If you were speaking (this is the only other reason I can think of for this post) of my posting a poem and neglecting "Ander", I just submitted chapter nine.
And if I've misunderstood your post, please enlighten me. I'm curious, honestly.

To the rest of you - thanks for your compliments. :)

"Imagine long, smile much, laugh often."

I apologize for my rather cryptic comment. I meant that so many of your writings are fantasy. I didn't realize that your poem was a metaphor. Forgive me. It is a lovely comparison to compare a delicate little girl to a fairy. Again, I'm sorry.

no problem, I was just confused is all.
