Lord, Your Will is All I Seek, by Siobhan M.

Lord, your will is all I seek,
for I know that you are wise.
We cannot know what is best,
only you can give us rest;
thus our eyes turn toward the skies.

We may say " life isn't fair";
and yet, who are we to say?
We cannot see future things,
nor what this life soon may bring,
nor how long our joy will stay.

You can see the future well;
you know pain can follow cheer,
and how empty things can be
if they are not filled with Thee,
if we only cling to "hear".

Like a child wants a bird,
only thinking of the joy
it will give him while it stays
never thinking of the days
after it away does fly.

You have warned us of this fact:
"What gain does it give a man
if he possess all the world
yet from him have his soul hurled
never to come back again?"

We are often selfish beings;
expecting from You all we want.
We do not want tears and pain,
only sun and never rain;
only plenty, never want.

We chase after worldly cheer,
stacking plenty here below.
To see, at the close of day,
only chaff and never hay;
for the hay in you does grow.

Help us always look to you:
trusting in your judgement still.
For you see where true joy lies,
what pain the world's pleasures hide,
and what waits atop each hill.
