At Home

As I look around the room
A pleasing scene now greets my eyes:
A family is sitting ‘round
And pleasant warmth within them lies.

The youngest boy, his math in hand,
Is trying to work a complication;
Yet, he works without frustration,
In his eyes shines fascination.

Besides his son, the father sits
To give whatever help he needs,
Thus showing love borne for his boy
And for the family that he leads.

The eldest son and daughter lounge
Upon the couch, as talking, they
Create an atmosphere of warmth
That seems to come from sunlit ray.

The mother looks out from her perch,
Benignly smiles upon her brood,
And as she knits and hums a tune,
Prays always for this gentle mood.

As the youngest child, I’ve seen
Our family at its worst and best;
And yet I see God’s hand at work,
And know that I am truly blest!

One night, when my family celebrated one of our birthdays, afterwards, we all sat around the room and were doing all sorts of things. I sat there watching everyone else, and I felt so peaceful and content with our family at that moment that I felt I needed to at least try and capture that mood in these simple lines.

This is so sweet, Libby! You captured it perfectly. I can see the scene in my head. :) I love being able to catch a glimpse of something physical through someone else's words. Thank you for sharing this. <3

I don’t thrive off of chaos: chaos thrives off of me.

Awww! Libby this is just lovely. And it reminds me what an incredible blessing it is that I can identify with this emotion. There's nothing like the joy and contentment of a happy family. :)

Yes, I know that I'm so blessed to have such a wonderful family; and even through the tough times, it brings us closer together. And when I think of how much I really honestly don't deserve to have them all, it makes me more grateful than ever.
