A foot out the door,
A lingering glance,
A final farewell to all I know.
A pipe in my hand,
A cloak on my back,
A quick glance ‘round before I go.
Turn to face the sunrise,
Lifting my face to the morning beauty.
Stepping into the morning dew,
Setting out on an unknown path,
A melody flowing from my mind.
New places, new faces,
A silent nod to every stranger.
Leaving all I knew behind,
Setting out to rest at last,
Always hunting for an answer.
The name of wanderer I now bear,
No house or place to call my own.
From village to city, ‘cross river and lake,
Where e’er the road leads,
A search for the place to call home.
A foot out the door,
A pipe in my hand,
A wanderer’s life for me.

Great!
This is a great poem! It reminds me a little of one of JRR Tolkien's characters (Gandalf maybe?)

I love this. When you posted
I love this. When you posted it on your blog I thought maybe Bilbo- or perhaps I should say Tolkien- wrote it.

Thanks
Thanks, y'all!
It does have a Tolkien feel
It does have a Tolkien feel to it. Personally my favorite is (I know this is of subject) either Gilglad or Gladrielle's something song.
Paul says that if he didn't
Paul says that if he didn't still, hmmm... hate is too strong a word, and dislike is too mild, so i'll say, loathe you so much, he would say it was a well-written poem. (It resembled J.R.R. Tolkien's writing style.)
(What he actually said was that it was very good)

Definitely a hobbit's song
Ah, yes, it could easily be a song Bilbo would sing. I feel like a hobbit myself, when I read it. Thank you for writing it!
