Little Girl, Little Girl   Born on a cloudy night with peach-fuzz hair blinking at harsh lights Mommy doesn’t care Daddy signs his rights away and you’re left to wail on your very first day But all pleas fail Nurse leans down and slowly sighs whispers through a frown your lullaby   Little girl, little girl Don’t you cry Little girl, little girl Dry your eyes Little girl, little girl Shed no tears Little girl, little girl Show no fear Little girl, little girl Feel no pain Little girl, little girl Don’t blink in the rain   Screaming bursts paper-thin walls shouted curses you curl into a ball hiding in the covers waking from one nightmare into yet another hugging your white bear Monsters in your closet whisper the song you cannot forget your whole life long   Little girl, little girl Don’t you cry Little girl, little girl Dry your eyes Little girl, little girl Shed no tears Little girl, little girl Show no fear Little girl, little girl Feel no pain Little girl, little girl Don’t blink in the rain   You are shaking huddled in the stall your heart’s breaking from words so small ignore your pretty dress trailing on the floor you look a mess but your heart hurts more Hear their mocking laughter as the music plays What comes after taking the wrong way?   Little girl, little girl Don’t you cry Little girl, little girl Dry your eyes Little girl, little girl Shed no tears Little girl, little girl Show no fear Little girl, little girl Feel no pain Little girl, little girl Don’t blink in the rain   No dreams remain ambition’s run dry life is plain just scraping by Once before closing in walks a man in very odd clothing “I’ll help you if I can.” But he shakes his head “That old song, your old lullaby I have something better instead” He looks her in the eye     Little girl, little girl When you cry Little girl, little girl I’ll wipe your eyes Little girl, little girl I’ll catch each tear Little girl, little girl I’ll calm your fears Little girl, little girl  I’ll take your pain Little girl, little girl I am the Son Who ends the rain

Monsters in your closet
whisper the song
you cannot forget
your whole life long

^ Loved that line. It was very well done, drew me in and didn't let me go until the very last line.

One of those poems that makes you cry through your tears.

I have hated the words and I have loved them, and I hope I have made them right. --The Book Thief
