That holds me to the cross yet sets me free..

Calvary’s Wings
I stared at the massive wooden beams, scrunching up my face at the disgusting odor. Eyes half-closed, I ran my fingers over the clumps of dried blood coating the rough wood.
I exhaled softly. No sense in prolonging the inevitable. I steadied my back against the rough wood. Splinters stabbed my t-shirt, slicing the fabric with tiny crimson ribbons. I stumbled beneath the crushing weight, falling to one knee. “Too heavy…” I gasped, biting my dry lips.
My eyes strained through the darkness, focusing on a distant speck of light. The sky transformed into a spinning pinwheel of color as I remembered, It doesn’t end here. The light brushed the heavy beam with tiny feathers of sunbeams. They grew and spread till the entire cross was coated with feathers.
I flapped once, soaring into the cloud sprinkled-sky. As I soared like an eagle, I grew impatient with the heavy wooden beam digging into my back. I took a knife and started hacking at the wood, trying to slice off pieces. But the feathers broke free, sending me plummeting towards the earth.
I stared at the massive wooden beams, scrunching up my face at the disgusting odor. Suddenly I fell to my knees and sobbed. It’s not just for Good Friday.
There is no easy gospel, no cheap grace. The wings of salvation are firmly bound to the weight of the cross.
I will glory in the cross.

astounding and beautiful
"There is no easy gospel, no cheap grace. The wings of salvation are firmly bound to the weight of the cross."
That is so awesome, and I needed to hear it. The whole "Deny yourself, and take up your cross," has been confronting me lately and bothering me; it was wonderful to remember that only through sacrifice and self-denial can you fly.
Just as a side-note... I loved the "pinwheel of color" part. It delighted me. :D
And did you mean to capitalize It in the third paragraph? Was that anything significant?
Thanks for this. I should try shorter pieces like this!
Italized
The sentance you pointe out needed to be italized. That's all.
