Ocean Song

Submitted by E on Wed, 07/10/2013 - 17:59

1. I want to die on a beach
I want to die on a beach
Alone, the rain will pelt my smile
The tide engulfing my outstretched arms
The sand will wrap me up like a cocoon
When the lightning strikes, I will remember my life as it once was
The ocean will take my body and I will swim amongst the whales.

Goodbye Burt

*NOTE* This is weird, slightly creepy, and not for everybody. I would say it's PG or PG-13 (it contains some social drinking of alcohol and a very bizarre plot that I won't tell you because it would spoil it) Anyway, please critique!

I just wasted approximately one and a half minutes of your life

People are like birds. Sometimes the men are the peacocks with the big plumage and all of the little mousy female peacocks are coming up and drooling over them. Sometimes they’re like those awkward little birds that make a special dance for their favorite lady, and she heartlessly turns them down if she disapproves.
I guess that they could also be like preying mantises. I’ve seen girl after girl eat her boyfriend’s head.

Shoes and Ships and Sealing Wax

I've written on apricotpie for five and a half years, and never once have I gone a month without posting. In fact, I don't recall ever cutting it this close. There are six hours left in the last day of the month and the only thing I have to show you is an essay about how I don't have anything to show you.
Sometimes I worry about my future as a writer.

You're probably a fantasy writer if...

1: ...you've researched dragons more than geography.
2: ...you come up with stories surrounding names from street signs.
3: ...noises in the night scare you more because you invent a reason for them.
4: ...you've succeeded in creating your own version of english.
5: ...your friends aren't worried when you mention magic, death and war in normal conversation.
6: ...you have a secret christmas list for swords, armour and period clothing.
7: ...you have long conversations with yourself and your friends about whether or not magic is evil.

You know you're a fantasy writer when...

1. …you spend countless hours inventing an Elvish alphabet.
2. …you have an ongoing debate with a friend over whether dragons are irredeemably evil or not. *cough cough*
3. …you’re worried that the FBI might investigate you because you keep Googling things like combat strategy, defenses, fortifications, weaponry, explosives…
4. ...you mutter nonsense syllables to yourself, trying to decide if they sound Elvish or not.
5. …you interview an EMT and one of your questions involves a stabbed character in a subterranean environment.

She and the Flame

Submitted by E on Tue, 04/16/2013 - 05:03

1. No More Drama

Reflecting back, it seems so silly
All of the whining and the drama
It leaves an ache of embarrassment in my chest
But then I reflect further
Then I reflect deeper
And then I recall all the things that I felt.

2. The Flame

Let the flames lick the sky
Faces reflected, going down into the embers
It’s only certain things that set my heart on fire
Just before gets choked out by the smoke

3. The Sky is Falling

Cobwebs

1. When Tomorrow Ends
I understand, I think
Why it seems like you can’t see
I guess I’m just wondering
When the goodbyes stop
And when tomorrow ends

2. Just a Little Closer
I see you closing the space between us
Your smile close to my own
You’re close enough that I could
Run my hand along your lips
I sense mowed grass
And a feeling of apprehension
What does this truly mean?

But the World doesn't Seem to Notice

There he is sitting all alone,
Desolate, sad, and Depressed,
He is a veteran and now he is home,
But the world doesn't seem to notice.

There's a frail, poor kid in Africa,
Someone gave him a gun and told him to fight,
So to his Mother he says "goodbye, I'll never see you again"
But the world doesn't seem to notice.

There's a beautiful, rich teenager,
Who sits alone on the porch swing,
Her parents, unavailable, are making her die inside,
But the world doesn't seem to notice.

I would love any comments/advice!!

Rhyming Lines

My mind is filled
With rhyming lines
The rhythm beats
Always just off time

The pen dances
Across paper white
The word’s cliché
The sentence’s trite

I cannot keep back
These jumbled words
My heart would die
So they soar like birds

My emotions show
I don’t go into hiding
When I have a pen
It’s how I do my crying
