PartⅠ

Dear Nathaniel,
The rain falls in large plump drops over here, which splatter everywhere and on everything. It is a miracle, for the garden sorely needed a spot of rain. It has been shockingly dry here this summer, and I have been so sick of mother’s dull company.
Poor thing, doesn't know she’s a complete and utter bore.
Must not keep you.
Miss you and wish to see you in a fortnight.
Sincerely yours,
Charlotte.

The Feudal System

Submitted by j. Glen pollard on Sun, 02/24/2013 - 22:39

MOST people believe that life in the Dark Ages were wonderful and adventurous. But some forget about the peasants, serfs and vassals. These were the ones who made the noblemen and kings so great. Peasants always were working, slaving and protecting them as they ate at their abundant tables, laughing at jesters and minstrels.

These are who they were:

First of all we must talk about the Feudal System.

EXT. ENCAMPMENT - HILL - DAY

The team crouches behind some rocks.
Tuor peeks over one of the boulders.
He exchanges a glance with Aerandir.
They all look at each other, and move towards the camp.

The team makes their way into a main tent.
Tuor, Lessien and Valandil stop by the tent opening and watch while Aerandir opens a small, wooden chest.
He pulls a stuffed animal and a carved statuette out of the chest.
The team looks hopefully at Aerandir.

o.o.c: I'm posting this first chapter to see if I get a good response. If you want more, comment.

"Good morning Daniel," a digital-sounding voice said.
"Good morning Eden." Daniel yawned.
"What can I do for you, sir?"
"Send Jars in, will you?"
"Right away, sir."
"Thank you."

Daniel Norris was eighteen years old. Both his parents had died leaving him an orphan. His parents' will left him the family fortune including the family mansion. The mansion was run by two of Daniel's inventions; Eden and Jars.

This was an essay I had to write for school; it's meant to be an expository essay.

Egyptian Pharaohs and Queens

The first dynasties of Egyptian pharaohs and queens were during 2920 BC. Most rulers were men; only a few women became pharaohs like Cleopatra VII. The ancient Egyptian world is most famous for their magnificent pyramids, which is one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

the bright flash of a flare in your eyes
lights up your face--

warnings streak across the sky
like shooting stars--

For a second I thought I might believe--

bombs falling with the sound of fireworks,
the rise and fall of bursting lights;
rushing through air that could carry paper cranes,
that could sail paper kites.

For a second I thought I might have seen--

metal falling from the sky
pelting like rain--

horizon filled with smoke and light
heat on your face--

Miches stepped back. he was finally finished.

The statue stood tall; Black granite against a golden sky.

Miches surveyed his handiwork. he felt the wings, the curved beak and the long talons.

"This is a smarter Guardian" Miches thought. "i shall set him to the ultimate Pass."

The statues were made for a purpose; A Pass.

The Gargoyle would sit on the roofs and wait. His Pass was to unleash a deluge of water on any intruder.

The Dragon was made for a gatehouse. His Pass would guard the gates of cities and castles, with fire if need be.

The Forests of Evenlear, Part Three: Havenwing & History

Submitted by Mary on Thu, 06/30/2011 - 17:23

After the scrumptious breakfast of scones and sausage that Aunt Monria served me, my first order of business was to return to my room and write a letter to my parents, informing them of my safe arrival. I then had the rest of the day to myself, and decided to spend it familiarizing myself with my new home city. Donning a thick shawl to keep off the chill, I left the mansion and walked across the grounds and out the gate into the town of Havenwing. It was market day, Aunt Monria had told me, which promised more excitement in addition to the pure enjoyment of exploration.
