Frodo at the Ford of Bruinan

Wild and frantic
The beating of his heart
As he clung to the horse's mane
And held on for dear life

The trees flew past
They ran swifter than eagles
An elven horse
With a hobbit on it's back

A slash of black
Amidst the colors of the trees
A stab of pain
In an ancient wound

How many days?
It seems like forever
The cold bite of steel -
No, no.

Harsh and shrieking
Their calls behind him
Almost drowned out
In the screaming of the wind

Cold and blue
The river before him
The Nazgul behind
Closing in

Splash! Drowning - No!
Swimming through water
The Nazgul behind
With cries of dismay

Behind is midnight
Ahead is the morning
Behind is the darkness
Ahead is the day

Hurry, hurry!
Safe on the bank...
Turning around
As if by command

He comes! He stands
In the middle of the river
His black horse pawing
He raises his hand...

No, no
I shall not go with you
"Verily I come" -
No, no!

"Go back! Go back!"
Despairing and frantic
Weary and useless
Nothing left

The world is fading
Into gray of shadows
Gray and black
And the cold of steel

Do you hear? Do you hear?
The world is fading...
But what is that
On the other bank?

Light, light!
The light of the stars
High beauty and light
Beyond the Shadow's reach

And water, water
Cool running water
But death to those
Who are caught in the swell

Shrieking cry
A cry of despair
Swept away
On the roar of the wave

They are gone, they are gone
And for now it is over
And he bent down and wept
Into the horse's mane

Okay, two questions. One, who is Nazgul? Two, do you play the harp? Totally unrelated, I know. Great poem, though! Very descriptive!

"The meek tyrannosaurus, victim of an innocent misunderstanding, tears like heck across the prehistoric valley." - Calvin and Hobbes

"I always wonder why birds stay in the same place when they can fly anywhere on the earth. Then I ask myself the same question." - Harun Yahya

Glad you like my poem! The Nazgûl (I think it's actually spelled like that) are the scary Black Riders in The Lord of the Rings. And yes, I do play the harp a little (that's my little harp in the picture, though at the time it was taken, I didn't know how to play it correctly. My harp teacher would find much to correct in this picture!).

So awesome!! I like it.

I liked this, even though I DON'T have a high opinion of Frodo. At the moment I can only think of one character in a book that's a good guy that I hate more- who would be Eragon from the Inheritance Cycle.
I am very loud, rather unreasonable, and downright stubborn in my abuse of those two. Most people, though not all, have learned to put up with it.

I liked this poem. It's very well done.
Anna: I don't like Frodo or Eragon either!! Eragon's worse...he's whiny. He's not a sympathetic main character at all.

AMEN! If it weren't for Saphira, Eragon's character would be unbearable.

I personally predict that the world will come crashing to a halt if you don't forward this to 50 Gazillion people by noon tomorow!!

great poem!
I'm not a huge Frodo fan (I'll pick Sam over him any day) but I positively detest Eragon. Glad to see I'm not alone in that!

I like this. I like Frodo in the movie, but I don't really remember him in the book. Haven't read it in awhile. Sam is soooo much better though. I agree there.

I'm disappointed that he never calls upon Elbereth lady of stars in the movie...
