Da Best

I feel so grateful. My family is so amazing. Did you ever really stop to think about how wonderful your parents are too you? I didn't, not until just recently. Yet, it was never really something I "pondered over" a whole lot. The realization just came. Maybe it was through other people pointing out how incredible my family is. Maybe it was God. Maybe I've had nothing to think about since school let out and this idea of the fabulousness of my family just popped into my head one day like a ant pops into your picnic.

I'm not quite convinced of the last one. I also apologize for the lack of a better comparison.

I believe that at many points in your life, God will pivot your heart and turn it into a different direction, although the direction you were going in before wasn’t necessarily wrong. God just has a different way for you to go- it’s time for growth and change. It’s time for an increase in wonder, excitement or fear. I believe that every time I feel like something has been stripped off of me, something more beautiful starts to blossom in its place.

This appreciation of my family could perhaps come from me trying to thank God for them every night. Maybe even the mere act of saying, "thank you, God, for ______" increases your gratefulness, whether you know it or not.

It’s not that right now is an easy time in my life. No, I'm still definitely being tried and thrown into things that aren't necessarily easy. Yet, I'm growing. Maybe I don't know how God is really there, yet I do know. My friend and I once put it as, "Knowing God is there, yet not knowing." It defines the feeling in the best way possible. When you can be thankful for things, it helps. You get to see where God is working in your life, and you feel loved.

When I have this feeling of thankfulness in my heart, the only thing that I know how to do, and can really do is look up to heaven, smile at the Boss up there, and say:

"You da best."

PS. I apologize for the scatterbrained-ness of this article. I’m just trying to put down on paper what I’ve been feeling, probably with little or no success.

"You da best!" LOL I like that, I like that a lot!

I do absolutely understand that feeling! I hate it when I look around me at all the kids on the playground acting as if their parents are nothing but slaves....or... I don't know peasants, and I'm treating my mom as if she was my friend, or a queen. I love it when I'm talking to my mom equely( did I spell that right?) in the car, laughing and joking about something totally out of the blue. And playing with my dad as if he was one of my brothers.

I think you did a great job on this essay! the ant thing was funny! they do pop there all of a sudden, like magician insects! but I think the climb in trees and just drop off.

Good job!

Thank you! :) I appreciate the fact that you got the just of what I was saying.... good work. I totally agree! I guess that means you're one of those people that tells your mom all about everything and people are like, "how do you do that?" and you're just like, "she's my mom..." And yes, my dad and I joke around all the time!

Hmm, I wonder if I could get another deep comparison with the ants climbing up the trees and then falling into your picnic... lol :)

Thank you, I will try! You too!

Yeah, i am one of those people who can tell everthing to my mom.

Hehehe! you could write a book or a peom about ants that fall out of trees.

A fun thing I just did with my sister, is, we took some marshmellows and put them in the microwave for thirty seconds. Its SOOOO fun! they blow up to twice their size! its fun to watch! and they tast good!

You welcome anytime!

Good job

It's really refreshing to read something where someone is saying, "thanks to my parents." I've seen people that just don't have relationships with them. And it's really sad! I'm so close to my mom, and tell her everything. I joke around with my dad, too! I just don't think people appreciate their mom and dad just as much as they should.

I love the first paragraph, by the way. That's something I also try to do. Remember: wow mom and dad are really great! And try not to take things for granted. I think the time when you most appreciate your parents is when you do something for them. Like if I decide I want to make dinner I think, "wow, my mom does this almost every night!"

And I try to tell them I appreciate what they do. Like, I'll walk into kitchen and get something, and if one of my parents are in there I'll just randomly say, "thank you." I think that's also important.

So...sorry for my long response! I just found this essay so I'm replying such a long time later. :) Thanks for writing this! And I love, "you da best!" It adds something humorous to this essay that balances everything really well. :)
