We were born and raised
To a measured beat
And we shuffle to the rythm
With our tired feet
And we skid down the hills
And we march and climb
And we claw through the brambles
At double time.
We pass by scenes
In a circular way
What we see tomorrow
We passed yesterday
And no matter how new
There will always be more
Though I don't know your name
I've met you before.
And the humdrum humming
Of this mundane tune
If there is an end coming
It better be soon,
For we dance and we dance
And the piper keeps playing
And like fools we give speeches
Though we don't know what we're saying.
And we call it inspiration
When we hear some pretty words
And we all claim to be different
Though we move around in herds.
And around we keep going
Though we can't tell where we'll stop
And pause in time for nothing
'Til we give up and we drop.
And I don't know if you've noticed
But the world is very round
And keeps moving without moving
For the place that it is bound.
And I have a slight suspicion
That we're just like this old earth,
And we're going 'round in circles
From the moment of our birth.
